Fire Clan: Foxkit's Destiny

Chapter 3:

*1 and a half moons later*

"All cats old enough to catch their own prey join beneath the High Rock for a clan meeting!" Owlstar's voice sounded throughout the clan. "We have a few apprentices to make!"

Foxkit woke up slowly but Elmkit pounced on her. She yelped. "Elmkit don't do that!" She said gasping for air.

Elmkit got off her. "Let's go! Owlstar is calling a meeting! Nightkit, Shadekit, and Tornadokit and becoming apprentices!" She said squealing.

Foxkit immediately bounced to her paws. Nightkit would become an apprentice! "Well than what are we waiting for? Lets go!" A moon and a half ago, when the fox attack happened after everyone had been treated, Foxkit had visited Nightkit as much as possible to keep his spirit high and keep him smiling. His ear used to be coated with thick cobwebs and had been cleaned frequently. But now, his ear didn't leave any sign of injury except the top part of his right ear completely torn off. Mallowfur looked like she would faint, but Thornclaw seemed to forgive his son and take pride in his son's now torn ear. Foxkit liked to spend time with Nightkit, and he seems to enjoy her company just as much.

Elmkit raced out of the nursery with Foxkit right by her side.

"You three have all reached six moons old," Owlstar began proudly. Mallowfur and Thornclaw looked like they were bursting with pride. Foxkit and Elmkit skidded to a halt next to Sunheart and Cloudheart. Badgerkit was already there and smirked.

"We were just about to start without you," he said.

Foxkit rolled her eyes. "Just be quiet, I'm trying to listen."

He snorted but didn't say anything else.

"Nightkit, Shadekit, and Tornadokit, please step forwards."

Nightkit padded confidentiality towards Owlstar as Shadekit looked a little nervous and Tornadokit looked smug, taking a glance at Foxpaw and her litter mates before following his brother.

That got on Foxpaw's nerves. But all she could do was just sit and watch quietly. They still wouldn't be apprenticed until a little more than a moon more.

"Nightkit come forwards."

He did so, tail held high as pride shown in his eyes.

"Nightkit, from this moment on your name will be Nightpaw and your mentor will be Rabbitail. Rabbitail, please pass your speed and your wisdom to this young apprentice," Owlstar announced.

Rabbitail looked slightly surprised but tried to hide it. He dipped his head. "I will Owlstar," he said and the two cats walked towards each other and Nightpaw touched noses with his mentor, his eyes shining. They said a few words to each other and Nightpaw nodded enthusiastically.

"Shadekit step forwards."

He did so slightly trembling.

Owlstar gave him an encouraging smile. "Shadekit, from this moment on, you will be known as Shadepaw. Firetooth, you will be his mentor. I know that you will teach him the ways of a Warrior."

Firetooth didn't show any surprise as he touched noses with his apprentice. Shadepaw's tail was twitching in excitement.

"Tornadokit, step forwards."

He did so, his face filled with excitement and pride, his smugness forgotten.

"From this moment on, you will be known as Tornadopaw. Breezeheart, you were an excellent mentor to Bouldercliff and I expect that you pass on your gentle manor and experience to Tornadopaw."

She looked very proud and touched noses with Tornadopaw.

Tornadopaw looked slightly annoyed that he got a soft mentor but hid it as soon as it showed.

"Nightpaw! Shadepaw! Tornadopaw!" Chanted the clan proudly. Foxkit cheered the loudest for Nightpaw.

Nightpaw looked like he wanted to come towards her but the clan mates all around him wouldn't let him.

"That is all, meeting dismissed!" Owlstar announced, leaping down from the High Rock.

Cats slowly dispersed. And as they did, as soon as there was a sliver of space, Nightpaw darted out of the way and padded towards Foxkit proudly.

"Hey!" He said cheerfully. "I'm an apprentice now!"

Foxkit chuckled. "I can tell. I rooted for you the loudest."

Nightpaw purred. "Thanks Foxkit. It's not to long before you become an apprentice yourself!"

Foxkit's tail dropped slightly. "Yeah, so you'd better practice your battle moves or else I'll easily beat you."

He snorted playfully. "As if!"

Foxkit dropped into a hunters crouch, her tail slowly gliding along the floor. "Wanna bet?"

He narrowed his eyes, accepting the challenge, and went into a hunters crouch as well.

"Nightpaw!" said a sharp voice behind Foxkit.

It caught Foxkit but surprise and bounced up to her paws and whipped around behind her. She saw Rabbitail padding towards them. "Training time."

She saw Nightpaw's tail droop slightly but got but and padded towards his mentor. He stopped by Foxkit and brushed his fur to hers that made her feel shocks down her spine.

"See you later k?" He asked into her ear.

Foxkit nodded purring and watch him disappear through the gorse tunnel after his mentor.
