━━━━━━━━━━━━

The news was quick to break out.

The news that Ao'nung had left Lo'ak beyond the reef. A place Lo'ak should not be alone.

It was dangerous for someone who hadn't been taught what is out there, animals and changing waters that could kill within seconds.

Maleia's heart was into her stomach and twisting into a unbearable nausea.

And, she couldn't contain her anger.

"You left him out there!" Maleia shouted.

Ao'nung rubbed the back of his neck as Maleia continued to punch his front.

She sighed in frustration once realising Ao'nung wasn't going to take responsibility for his actions.

Her hands moved quick to place the saddle across the closest ilu's neck.

"What are you doing?" Ao'nung asked her.

Maleia sighed, "I am going to find Lo'ak."

She jumped into the water and climbed onto the ilu, making her way to find Lo'ak.

Maleia's body was covered in goosebumps and her mind was filled with only the worse— what if something had reached Lo'ak before them?

The ilu swam beyond the reef.

"Lo'ak!" She called out for the dark blue boy.

Even Maleia didn't wonder this far into the ocean during the night, despite living here her whole life and having a deep connection with the sea.

"Please, Eywa.. Lo'ak!" Maleia exclaimed.

Her movements were frantic as she continued to search for Lo'ak.

Where could he be?

But, all those thoughts lifted.

Lo'ak was in the water, his head bopping over the white bubbles of the sea.

A sigh of relief escaped her mouth before she moved the ilu towards him. Lo'ak smiled once he saw her and mounted the ilu without another thought.

"Are you hurt?" Maleia asked him.

She glanced over his injured body, only finding small amounts of irritated cuts.

"I am going to kill Ao'nung!" Maleia shouted.

Lo'ak chuckled to himself before placing his hand onto her cheek, "It was not his fault."

Maleia squinted her eyes, not believing him.

"My brother is a skxawng," Maleia spat.

Lo'ak only nodded his head in approval before they both made their way back to the pods.

"I have found him!" Maleia announced before she helped Lo'ak off of the ilu.

Lo'ak's eyes instantly turned to Ao'nung, he began to walk towards him but Jake stopped his movements by looking at his body.

"He's fine. He's fine," Repeated Jake.

Ronal looked at the close proximity of Maleia, realising her hand was still holding onto Lo'ak's after she helped him off the ilu.

"Just a few scratches," Jake announced.

Neytiri jumped down onto the platform and held Lo'ak's shoulders.

She hissed, "I pray for the strength that I will not pluck the eyeballs out of my youngest son!"

Tonowari looked down at them all.

He curled his fingers to tell Maleia to stand with them, but she refused.

"My son knows better than to take him beyond the reef. The blame is his," Announced Tonowari as he pushed Ao'nung to the ground.

Jake held onto Lo'ak's back, "Okay. Let's go."

Maleia looked for Ao'nung, spotting him before her grip tightened in Lo'ak's hand.

Lo'ak noticed and rubbed his thumb on her hand.

"No. This is not Ao'nung's fault," Lo'ak said.

Maleia turned to him with furrowed prints.

He looked down at her and nodded his head, "This was my idea. Ao'nung tried to talk me out of it. Really."

Jake climbed up the platform.

After Jake warned him to follow, he climbed up to the same level as Jake.

Maleia stopped at her brothers side.

Tonowari and Ronal watched their daughter with fascination to her further actions.

"I should cut your legs off," Maleia told Ao'nung.

He looked down at his legs, knowing he couldn't do anything without them.

He'd be useless.

"You are lucky that you my brother," Maleia warned before shoving into his shoulder as she walked away from them all.
