It spread quick— Lo'ak Sully had disappeared. Gone missing from Awa'atlu. He didn't know the water, he didn't know about the ocean. What lays behind the reef. It was dangerous and stupid from her brother to leave him out there alone.
Her heart was in her stomach, nausea twisting unbearably. "You left him out there!" She couldn't contain her anger. Ao'nung rubbed the back of his neck as Maleia continued to wack her fists against his chest.
She knew he wasn't going to take responsibility for this. When would he ever? Maleia moved quick from her brother, placing a saddle around the ilu's back. "Where are you going?" Ao'nung asked in shock to his sisters actions.
"I am going to find Lo'ak..." Maleia announced. She was terrified. She knew what was out there— what animals could kill him within seconds in the ocean.
Without another answer from Ao'nung, Maleia jumped into the water and wasted no time connecting to the ilu. Goosebumps arose on her flesh, the water cold and calm. Calm compared to how she felt. What if something had found Lo'ak before them?
"Lo'ak!" Maleia called out once she reached past the reef. Placing herself in danger during the dark night. Her bioluminescent freckles being the only light amongst the dark.
Even she hadn't ventured past the reef during the night because she knew. Despite her connection to her world, the ocean can be a dangerous place if you didn't know it. "Please! Lo'ak!" She called out to him again.
Her movements were frantic as she continued to search for the dark blue boy. Where can he be? Tears filmed over eyes, glossing over her sight. Her heart rate hadn't slowed for the entire time being there.
But when she caught sight of foam covering the surface of a certain part in the water, Lo'ak's head bobbing between the waves. She knew he was safe after all. A sigh of relief escaped her mouth as the ilu swam towards him. He didn't look scared— he looked peaceful and relaxed. Lo'ak mounted the ilu with a great smile on his face.
"Are you hurt?" Maleia questioned, glancing over his entire figure to find any wounds. Small amounts of irritation cuts from the salt water but that much was it, "I am going to kill Ao'nung when we get back!"
Lo'ak let out a slight chuckle before his hand fell against her cheek, "It wasn't his fault." Maleia's eyes squinted as she didn't believe him. It definitely wasn't Lo'ak's fault, "My brother is a skxawng."
Lo'ak nodded his head in approval before the two made their way back to land. "I have found him!" Maleia announced.
The two reached where the marui's ended within the water, Lo'ak climbing back onto the surface before locking eyes with Ao'nung, threatening to step towards him. But, Jake stopped him immediately as he checked his son over for deeper wounds than cuts.
"He's fine..." Jake repeated. Ronal looked out at the close proximity of Maleia standing beside Lo'ak, realising her daughter had her hand pressed against his arm. "Just a few scratches," Jake announced.
But it could've been a lot more than that. Neytiri jumped down onto the platform and held her son's shoulders, "I pray for the strength that I will not pluck the eyeballs out of my youngest son!"
Tonowari looked down at them all. Straight towards Maleia before curling his finger, wanting the girl to stand next to him. But, Maleia refused as she stayed put with Lo'ak.
"My son knows better than to take him beyond the reef. The blame is his," Tonowari announced before pushing Ao'nung's shoulders, making him kneel on the ground.
Jake looked at the two of them, "Okay. Let's go." He tried to push his son from the confrontation of it all. Maleia's hand didn't loosen against Lo'ak's arm, instead she tightened it. Not wanting him to leave. Lo'ak noticed and dragged his arm up to her hand, rubbing his thumb against her skin.
"No... This is not Ao'nung's fault," Lo'ak announced— and lied. Maleia turned to look at him with a disappointed face, "This was my idea. Ao'nung tried to talk me out of it."
Jake looked down at his son and warned him to follow. Maleia sighed before releasing Lo'ak's arm, stopping at her brothers side.
Tonowari and Ronal watched their daughter. "I should cut off your tail," Maleia announced to her brother, disappointed in what he had done to the Sully family.
