chapter five. meet again.
━━━━━━━━━━━━

It was common to find Maleia here.

Especially, at sundown.

Maleia couldn't help being hypnotised by the beauty of watching the sun fall, casting an orange cast across the calm waves of the water.

Knowing that bioluminescence began to glow around her from the flora in Pandora.

She began to settle her legs into the cold water, watching in fascination as her white freckles also began to glow.

But, she had to focus on weaving her jewellery.

From the seashells she had collected, Maleia had made countless jewelleries from them.

It was her favourite use for them.

Decorating her body with plenty of necklaces and bracelets, even making Ao'nung and Tsireya a few during her spare time.

"What are you making?" Asked a familiar voice.

This time, Lo'ak had decided to sit next to her instead of making the girl jump.

"It is a bracelet," Maleia replied before giving Lo'ak a glimpse of the woven, beautiful jewellery.

His head peered over her shoulder to see.

A scent of tropic falling into his nose, coming to the realisation it was produced from Maleia's flesh. Lo'ak cleared his throat— knowing he could get addicted to that smell.

"Do you want me to make you one? Ao'nung doesn't really wear his often," Maleia announced with a frown.

Maleia twisted her body around, their knees touching from the new direction.

Lo'ak looked down at their touching skin.

"Yeah, yeah," He said in return.

Maleia smiled brightly before clapping her hands together, "What is your favourite colour? I could find coloured rocks for you!"

Lo'ak smiled at her excitement.

This gift, he would keep close to his heart.

"I like green," Lo'ak replied.

Maleia thought to herself, trying to figure if she could find any green in her collections.

But, that was when she remembered, Lo'ak needed to learn their sign language.

"When we go diving, and you find anything green, I want you to sign this," Maleia said before moving her hands to sign, "Green."

Lo'ak nodded and repeated the sign.

Completely butchering it as Maleia had done it too quick for his brain to comprehend.

A giggle left her mouth and Lo'ak flicked his eyes up to meet hers, finding her laugh to be nothing but melodic to his ears.

"Like this..." Maleia took his hand into hers.

Lo'ak looked down at their hands.

He watched as she moved his fingers to speak to vibrant colour of green.

She then let go, Lo'ak signing it back.

"There you go, you did it!" She exclaimed with a series of chuckles.

Lo'ak smiled proudly to himself, noticing the dimples deep in Maleia's cheeks as she smiled alongside her laughs.

"Do you always come here?" Lo'ak questioned, noticing it to be the same place as last night.

Maleia nodded her head before looking into the distance, noticing the sun had set.

A soothed sigh escaped her mouth before relaxing her whole body— when it was night, there hadn't came any responsibilities.

No learning, no teaching.

"Every night," Maleia replied, "I can remember, one night, I had fell asleep here and my mama had sent out a whole search to find me."

That was possibly the most mischievous thing Maleia had ever done. She liked to be alone most of the time, no bad influences to cause any problems for her.

The complete opposite to Lo'ak.

He was the cause of mischief.

It made him believe he would be like his father, and it would open Jake's eyes to his youngest son, but it only got him in trouble.

"I should probably go back," Lo'ak said.

Maleia nodded her head, placing the woven bracelet and shells into her bag, "I will come back with you."

They both jumped into the water.

But, before swimming to the shore.

They admired the sight around them. Well, Lo'ak admired Maleia.

Her smile as she touched the glowing plants, hands moving to play with the glowing fish and setting them back on their track.

After they landed back on the sand, the world of Awa'atlu seemed silent. All families had gone to bed, or getting ready for their sleep.

"Goodnight, Lo'ak," Maleia said. Lo'ak smiled to himself with his next though, "How'd you say that in your finger talk?"

"Goodnight..." Maleia signed and Lo'ak repeated the same action. Their soft, laughs could be heard before both retreated to their pods.
