chapter seventeen. bracelet.

━━━━━━━━━━━━

Most of the day, Maleia spent under water with Taio and searching for green rocks.

With the help of her sister, she had formed a stunning bracelet with green rocks of every shape and size and some pearls.

The sky was getting darker and the water seemed to calm down from the constant breeze of the wind, now gentle crashes against the rock she sat on.

Their rock.

Her tongue stuck out on the corner of her mouth as she concentrated on tying the last bit of the bracelet together.

The bracelet for Lo'ak.

What broke her from her trance was the sound of Lo'ak laughing.

She looked up at him with furrowed brows to his sudden laughter whilst he climbed onto the rock with her.

"What is so funny?" She asked him, finally securing the bracelet together.

Lo'ak smiled, "How you stick your tongue out when you concentrate."

Maleia sat up from being laid on her stomach and pulled on even more confused face, not knowing what he was talking about, "I don't do that."

"You do! Like this..." Lo'ak copied the face Maleia previously was doing.

"I do that?" She asked, quietly.

Lo'ak realised the meekness of her voice and his face dropped serious in panic, "No! It's not a bad thing! It's cute. Not cute. Well, yeah, cute... but not."

His ramble made Maleia burst into laughter.

"You're cute..." She replied.

Lo'ak folded his arms and shrugged, "I am not cute."

Maleia didn't want to argue with him on it. As much as she told him he was cute, he wasn't going to accept the compliment.

A couple of minutes of comfortable silence went on as they both watched the waves crash onto the rock and the orange sun set behind the sea. A pleasing sight.

"Oh, hey... I finished the bracelet," Maleia announced as she held the bracelet out.

Lo'ak looked at the jewellery before a small smile filled his lips.

He held his wrist out and felt tingles when Maleia took his wrist and wrapped the bracelet around the area. Tying it so it wouldn't fall off of his wrist.

Lo'ak stared at the bracelet.

A smile that was so small Maleia couldn't see it, formed on his lips.

"If you don't like it, I can make another-" That was when Maleia was cut off with arms wrapping around her waist.

Lo'ak's arms immediately wrapped around her waist as he pulled her into to him, sitting her on her lap, before she hugged her arms around him also.

Her head rested on his chest before he kissed her curly hair resting on her scalp.

"I like it..." Lo'ak whispered.

Maleia couldn't help but smile when she heard that. He was the only person who truly liked her jewellery.

Everyone else found them too feminine.

If that was even a thing.

"You do?" Maleia asked before looking up at him, blinking a couple of times in disbelief.

Lo'ak lifted his hand and moved her hair.

Waves crashed around them, the sun was finally settled down causing the night sky to glow down on them, her teal eyes comfortably met his amber ones.

It was the perfect moment.

It felt so right.

Lo'ak leaned his head down before touching his lips to hers, so gently.

Maleia could barely feel the press to her smile before leaning more into him when he pulled apart, pressing their lips together. Tugging apart, their faces were flushed and they heard nothing but the crisp sound of their heavy breathing.

A first kiss: something that should be with someone from their own clans.

But, something they didn't care about.

Young love.

How normal it felt for the both of them.

Neither of them caring about how their parents would feel about it because the only thing they both care about is the feeling of their hearts racing.

How they would capture quick glances from each other, smiles filling their lips whenever when one of them just talks, or how quickly their heart jumps when they see one another simply walk by.

That was all they cared about.

In this moment, just each other.

"Maleia!"

The voice was loud in their tranquility. A deafening sound of Ronal's voice full of wrath and disappointment.

Which only meant one thing.

They had been caught.
