hapter twenty-two. neteyam.
━━━━━━━━━━━━
Killing lead to more killing.
Dark was soon to consume Pandora. And, still, she could see the red drifting throughout the ocean. A loud commotion coming from a rock.
Maleia swam towards the sound.
Her ears lifted with the sound of heavy breathing and crying. She climbed onto the rock and paused.
Her eyes widened when she saw Neteyam laying there.
His chest was heaving to gather his last breaths as Lo'ak held the wound.
The blood gathered in a lake.
She had never seen this before.
War wasn't normal. Seeing death that so excruciating wasn't normal.
"I want to go home..." Neteyam said.
His words struck Maleia. Her eyes filled with years as she held onto Neteyam's legs, needing to know that he had to stay alive with them.
"I know. I know. It's okay, we're going home," Jake muttered to his son.
Neteyam looked around.
Lo'ak didn't take his hands off of chest, giving a lasting chance that his pressure would stop the bleeding.
Maleia let the tears fall down.
This wasn't supposed to happen.
"Dad, I-" And then that was it.
Maleia heard the screams from Neytiri when she realised Neteyam had completely stopped breathing.
His body went limb and the bioluminescence died across his skin. Maleia watched him with sorrow.
He was such a kind soul. Had so much ahead of him. And now he's gone.
Lo'ak pulled his hands away.
He looked down at his brothers blood coating his palm and fingertips.
She crawled over to him.
Lo'ak snapped out of his trance when her hands stroked through his braids, quickly washing the blood from his hands when she got the chance to.
Lo'ak looked over at her, tears dropping down his cheeks.
She couldn't even smile at him.
Instead, she wrapped her arms around his neck and brought him closer towards her.
Lo'ak held her tight, squeezing her.
His head buried into his shoulder as he let all the tears flow onto her skin.
