Me and my siblings had to go to some stupid family dinner with my moms new family.
I knew none of my siblings were excited to see mom again it was clear to see. Mom and Dad divorced when I was 7 and to be honest it kinda sucked. I knew my mom was a good person, she made dad happy and she seemed happy but I was wrong... I dont know if mom just didnt feel like she loved our dad anymore or something else. Ever since mom left dad had been working to the bone just to make us happy and we all didnt realize it at the time but he did a lot for all of us. Im not going to enjoy this and I don't think anyone will.
"You ready?" Hailee leans on the door frame watching me get dressed "I guess.." I turn around to see Hailee with a small smile on her face. Hailee knew I didnt have the best relationship with my mom but she didnt pry and ask me why I didnt, Ive just never connected as well with mom than with dad. "Dont worry, ill be there for you" Hailee walked over and snaked her arms around my neck pulling me in for a nice passionate kiss. "Ew" Sam says with a disgusted look on his face "Shut up Sam" I respond "Hey be nice" Hailee looks at me and then Sam smiling widely "You ready to go Minion?" I ask "Sure..." Sam is 9 years younger than me so when mom and dad split he wasnt even born. Sam had never met mom, she told our dad to take Sam when he was born so she could start a brand new life with a brand new family.
The real ride to our moms house was silent with Hailee, me and Robin in the middle and Connor in the front with Sam and Lucas in the back. "Alright, We havent seen your mother in a long time, I want you to be nice, I want you to respect her and thank her for inviting us to dinner. Got it?" My dad asks us all "Yes" We all say in unison. We all step out of the car and walk towards the front door. Dad wipes his hands on his jacket before knocking on the white door. A few seconds later the door opens and we are greeted by a teenage girl who I expect its moms new daughter "Um, hello, Im Robert" "Oh hello! im Angel nice to meet you!" The girl then shakes Dads hands and leads us inside.
"Please please sit! Ill call mom and let her know you guys are here" Angel says before walking upstairs and leaving us in silence "She seems nice" Hailee whispers in my ear and I nod. We wait for a couple of minutes until we all see our mom walk down with a smile plastered on her face. "Oh my god, theres my boys! and my girl!" our mom quickly hustles down the stairs to give us all a hug. "Hey...mom" I exhale sharply while I see my siblings looking down at the floor. "Oh Robert im so glad you could all make it" they both hug eachother and then we meet our moms new husband Daniel "Hey guys! im Daniel nice to meet you all".
We all sit down at the table and start to eat "So Y/N who is this girl you've brought with you?" My mom asks "Well mom, this is my girlfriend Hailee" I reply "Oh wow a girlfriend I see" "Is something wrong?" I ask my mom glancing at Hailee "Oh no, its just, I cant believe you have a girlfriend. I mean lets face it we all thought you would be in a relationship last, even the girls thought you wouldnt be married until 60!" She laughs "The girls?" "Oh yes, I have two wonderful daughters, Angel and Gracie. Unlike Robbie they dont believe in same sex marriage" Mom says looking at me while I look at my sister whos head is in her hands "Her name is Robin" I mumble "What was that?" Robin looks at me shaking her head as if shes begging me not to say anything. "I said her name is Robin" I say calmly "She is my daughter and I will call her by her birth name!" Mom slightly shouts as I stay seated. "Well shes my sister! you werent even fucking there for any of us! why do you even care?" Something about my mom insulting my sister and not accepting her for who she is enraged me. "Y/N please cut it out" My dad says calmly "No dad! how can you stand up to the woman who left you just because she was getting bored!?, you know mom your sick! you left dad with 4 kids so you could start a new life! how could you leave us behind! when sam was born you didn't even care to take care of him for at least a month instead you tossed him aside!"
Tears of anger start to form and Hailee stands up rubbing my back. "Y/N please calm down" "Yes Y/N if you wont listen to your own mother listen to your little girlfriend! this was a family dinner!" "A, Hailee is my family B, Hailees been standing next to me longer than you ever have! and C, If you knew I was gonna act like this you shouldnt have planned the stupid dinner anyway!" I look around the room with my step siblings and siblings looking at me wide eyed. Soon enough I storm out of the house unaware that my family was calling for me.
I sat in the car absolutely breaking down until Hailee opens the door and hugs me tightly. "Shh shh its okay" Hailee rubs comforting circles on my back until I calmed down and resting my back on the seat "Wanna talk about it?" She asks grabbing my hand and squeezing it "Not really.." "Thats perfectly fine, we dont have too, just know Ill always be here for you Y/N, no matter what. I promise" I look into Hailees light brown eyes and then into the distance to see my family walking out of the house and into the car. "Hey thanks for standing up for me back there big bro" Robin says looking at me and then giving me a hug.
I realized I have a loving happy family right here even if I dont have a mom.
