Sophie glittered to the front of a shimmering ice palace that would've put Elsa's to shame. Every time she came here, it took her breath away. The Dizznees were so wacky in public, but at home, they were like all other elves: very wealthy and very fond of sparkles. Sophie wondered what Ro would say if she came here. She walked to the intricate front doors, snow crunching under her boots. She knocked on the door and was met with a loud crash emitting from one of the top floors of the house. Screaming and fighting grew nearer and eventually, Dex's rambunctious triplet siblings opened the door.

"DEX! That girl you used to like is here!" One of the boys shouted up the stairs, quickly getting his hair ruffled by an older version of himself.

"Would you stop doing that? You are so annoying, Lex. Hey Sophie!"

"Hey!"

Dex pushed the three strawberry blondes away. "I didn't realize you were coming over."

"Oh! Sorry, I can go-"

"No, you can stay." Dex grabbed her hand and led her up one of the towers, past the triplets who were once again pounding each other. "Let's go to my room before they find out where we are."

When the stairs came to an end, a door with no knob appeared. Dex let go of Sophie's hand and pressed his against a specific icy brick. A panel with a keypad popped out of the wall. Dex punched in so many numbers that Sophie lost count. When he finished, a sleek silver door knob popped out a couple inches away from where the panel had been.

"Wow, is this new?"

"Yeah, the triplets recently broke into my room and put pink in all my hair stuff."

Sophie ruffled his hair, "I can still see the pink," she giggled.

Dex's cheeks turned pink and he opened the door to his room. His room was really bright, with big windows that reflected the bright snow outside into the large room. At one of the smaller windows, a large desk piled high with gadgets and gears. There was a notebook filled with symbols and detailed drawings that gave Sophie a headache just looking at them. A large bed lay against the wall, the blue quilts and blankets halfway off the bed. Sophie walked across the ice floor and sat in an armchair close to the overflowing bed.

"So what did you come here for?" Dex asked.

"I just wanted to say hi."

Dex looked quite skeptical as he replied with "Really,"

"Yes, really," Sophie looked around the room nervously as she felt Dex stare holes into her eyes. A beat of silence followed before Sophie finally spoke up.

"Ok, I came here for some advice, I guess."

"I am pretty worthy of advising," Dex agreed.

"It's about Fitz..."

"Oh... Are things not going well or... is he hurting you? Because if he is, I'll totally beat him up for you-"

"No!" Sophie quickly blurted out, "No, things are just getting complicated..."

"Why?"

"Oh, well... um I found out who one of my biological parents is..."

"That's great! Right? Isn't that a good thing?"

"Well, I'm not allowed to tell anyone,"

Dex looked quite confused "Right... we knew that already. What does that change with Fitz?"

"Well, as you probably know, he really doesn't want to be a bad match."

Dex scoffed. "Wonderboy and his family's stupid prejudices."

"Dex, I'm pretty sure no one wants to be a bad match,"

"Yeah, but Sophie, if he really likes you, he won't care if you're unmatchable."

"Yeah, but-"

"No but's Sophie. If someone really likes you, they won't care about something like that."

Sophie thought this over for a bit before responding. "Yeah, I guess so."

"That's not really a solid answer." Dex pointed out.

"I know, it's just that I've always had this big crush on him-"

"I know, it was quite obvious." Dex said with a smirk.

Sophie rolled her eyes with a small smile as she continued, "And once we became cognates, I thought we were, like, meant to be or something. And then we figured things out, and it was pretty nice for a while, and-"

"Please skim over all the really mushy parts." Dex pretended to gag.

Sophie rolled her eyes again, "I was about to say something else."

"Oh, well then by all means, please do continue." Dex said with a goofy smile.

"And then he started getting mad at me for something I can't even control!"

"I think I'm going to go over to his sparkly as heck palace and wipe that smug little smile off his rich-"

Sophie stopped him before he could continue. "Please don't, it'll make everything worse."

"I know, I just don't think he should be treating you like that, I mean come one Sophie, how could he say something like that, I mean-"

Dex noticed Sophie wiping the tears off her face and quickly walked over to her and pulled her out of the chair to hug her. Sophie couldn't pull herself back together and started sobbing uncontrollably on Dex's shoulder, though he didn't seem to mind.

"It's ok, Soph,"

Sophie didn't respond, she just stood there crying. She thought she'd cried through all her emotions, but this was proof she still felt terrible.

After a while, Sophie stopped crying and pulled away from Dex's soaked jerkin.

"I'm sorry,"

"Sorry for what, Sophie?" Dex asked, looking as perplexed as ever.

"Sorry for crying like this." She poked the tear-stained fabric of his jerkin. "And for soaking your jerkin."

"I don't even like this one, trust me, I'm just wearing it because it needs to be tailored for Dizznee Family Portrait Week, so you're actually saving me from having to wear this awful thing."

Sophie giggled and started to walk out the door when her imparter rang in her pocket. A picture of Edaline flashed with her full name flashed onto the small screen.

"Hey, Mom. What's up?"

"Sorry?"Edaline said, clearly confused.

"Oh, it's a human expression, it like asking what someone is doing,"

"Well in that case, I'm just sitting in the front room with a guest."

"And who is this guest?" Sophie asked with curiosity.

"Guess."

"Ooh, let's see, um, all of the councilors?"

"No..." Edaline said with a smirk on her face.

"Mr. Forkle with The Collective to tell me I've magically been deemed matchable?" Sophie really hoped this was the right guess.

"Closer..."

"How about the matchmakers?"

"Nope. How about I just tell you?"

Sophie pretended to sigh heavily in defeat. "Alright, who is at our house?"

"Fitz."

Hey! I'm so sorry that I've been late. My computer died, but no more excuses. Why do you think Fitz is here? I mean it might be obvious, but I really hope not. Hope you all are doing alright! Stay tuned for the next part!
