He could feel his toes, he wiggled them slightly. They felt weird like they weren't really connected to his body. He tried his fingers next. They ached. They felt stiff and when he moved them, they wrapped around something warm. Somebody else's hand maybe. Whoever's hand it was, felt soft. It was delicate, yet strong at the same time, but it wasn't really small. It felt like a girl's hand. He let go of the hand, moving his hand around the girl's wrist and up her forearm, trying to decipher who it was. He should open his eyes, but they felt heavy, now that he mentioned it, his whole body felt heavy and tingly. Like he had pins and needles but in his whole body. It hurt a little. He tried to open his eyes again, slowly, slowly his eyes opened. It was dark, the room illuminated by a small lamp. Even though it was dim the intensity of the light hurt his eyes. He couldn't see much as he had to squint, so his eyes would adjust to the light. He was in a bed, he thought. Although the bed was a little uncomfortable. It didn't feel like his own bed, but maybe he had the flu or something and it just felt uncomfortable. A girl's head rested upon the bed next to him. Her hand resting in his. Her raven hair spread across the bed, looking rather messy and covering her face. As he looked closer he could see a red scarf wrapped around her next. Mikasa.
"Mikasa." He didn't know if the words even projected themselves out of his body. His mouth felt dry, like sandpaper and his throat scratchy.
"Mikasa." He tried again. The strain on his throat brought tears to his eyes. She stirred slightly.
"Mikasa." After the third time her eyes opened and she stared at him, wide eyed.
"Eren? Oh my god, oh my god." She embraced him so hard that spikes of pain wracked through his body. She was sobbing and gripping him with a fierce intensity. Why was she crying?
"Hey Mikasa, what's wrong?" He said, trying to move his arm up to her face, but his arm felt too heavy. She laughed teary eyed and kissed his cheek. He watched as she leant over and pressed a button behind his head. He didn't remember his walls having buttons.
"Mikasa, what's going on?" As he looked past Mikasa the whole layout of the room was foreign. The smell of antiseptic was foreign. The continuous beeping foreign also.
"Eren. Do you remember anything?" She asked. Eren frowned. He looked at things closer. The room was sterile, bar the cards and flowers on the table next to his bed.
"Am I in a hospital?" Mikasa nodded.
"Eren, you were in a car accident." Suddenly Eren remembered everything from Him getting wasted, to fighting with Mikasa, to getting in the car, to the way everything seemed to fade and blood, he remembered the blood. He felt incredibly sick.
"Oh god. Oh my god. Mikasa did I hurt anyone?" He asked gripping onto her arm tightly.
"Eren..."
"Mikasa? Please Oh god don't tell me I hurt somebody else." He started crying. He'd killed somebody hadn't he? Mikasa embraced him.
"Shh, it's fine Eren, you didn't hurt anyone but yourself."
"Do you promise?"
"I promise." She said squeezing his tightly. "Eren we all thought you were dead."
"Well I'm not." He smiled.
"Good thing too, I would've killed you if you'd died on me. You promised you wouldn't remember." Eren nodded.
"Where's Mum and Dad?" He asked.
"They went down to the cafeteria. I can call them if you'd like." Eren nodded. His throat sore from all the talking. He looked around the room as Mikasa talked briefly to their parents. Suddenly he froze. Eren hadn't noticed him before, sleeping in the chair in the corner. Levi rested silently, a blanket pulled up around his shoulders. Eren turned to Mikasa.
