Chapter Fifty-Two: Delivering Food And News

(The Monster And The Superhero)

***

When Alistair woke up the next morning, his head was pounding and the echoes of screams and blood and a hole being brutally punched through his chest was still in his memory. He winced as his head throbbed mercilessly. God, he was getting really sick of these headaches.

Pushing his sheets back, he got up and shambled to the bathroom, ready to down some Tylenol so he could focus on today and in helping prove Eddie's innocence and find Vecna and kill him—only to freeze at seeing Rowan kneeling by the sink, a plastic bag bulging with objects. His sister was already dressed, and she froze at seeing him.

The siblings stared each other down, before Alistair connected the dots and asked, "Why are you robbing our bathroom?"

In response, Rowan lifted the bag and said, "This is for Eddie."

"Again, why?"

"Because, he's probably gonna be hiding at the shithole for a few days until we find this Vecna and prove he murdered Chrissy instead of Eddie and I gleefully go full Carrie White on the bastard, so he's gonna need this," Rowan explained.

"Oh," Alistair said. "That makes sense."

It really did make a lot of sense, and maybe in hindsight Alistair should have realised Eddie would need some supplies if he was going to be hiding at Rick's until they proved he didn't kill Chrissy, but Alistair couldn't really focus when his skull still felt like a hammer was slamming into it.

His sister immediately noticed, frowning as she stood up. "You okay, squirt?"

"I'm fine. Just had a bad night," Alistair replied, shrugging, trying to not shutter his face at how Rowan seemed so worried for him when this was really nothing to worry about.  But he still looked down as he added, "Uh, I also have a headache, so can I squeeze in and get some Tylenol?"

"Yeah, of course," Rowan replied as she got out of the bathroom. "I was done in there anyway."

"Thanks," Alistair mumbled as he took her spot, opening the cabinet again and pulling out the large bottle of Tylenol. Taking two tablets out, Alistair dry-swallowed them before washing them down with a handful of water, now needing to wait until the effects kicked in.

The siblings stood there for a moment before Rowan broke the silence by saying, "I'm gonna head over next door to nab some clothes for Eddie. Can you and Hugin serve as lookout?"

Alistair nodded, giving a thumbs up. "Sure."

Rowan smiled and turned, making a beeline for the front door. Alistair followed, peering out through the front window as he said through the bond, Hugin, eyes in the sky, the raven cawing an affirmative as he flew out of the window Alistair had still left open when Max had climbed in yesterday, Alistair feeling his raven wheel high above in the sky, scouting from above while Alistair watched from the ground.
