Chapter Seventy-Two: Contacting The Other Side

(The Massacre At Hawkins Lab, Pt. 3)

Their Christmas lights and alphabet wall came to mind a minute later.

After Dustin told the seven trapped in the Upside Down to head into the mirror version of Nancy's bedroom, while they grabbed something to communicate. And judging by how the lights pulsed before dimming down, they'd listened and done that.

So, it was up to them to grab that thing.

That lead them to the living room, where Holly had been happily playing with her LiteBrite. Lucas walked forward, leaning down at the wall—and yanked the plug connecting the LiteBrite to the socket out and cutting off the power.

Holly noticed, yelling, "Hey!"

"I'm sorry!" Lucas apologised as Dustin grabbed the LiteBrite and Alistair held the cord, saying in unison, "Sorry, sorry, sorry!"

Lucas grabbed the box of beads—they'd need pretty much all of them for this—and Erica gave Holly a candy bar.

"For your understanding," she said before she was bolting up the stairs with the rest of them into Nancy's room.

Inside, Dustin and Lucas set the LiteBrite and box of beads down on the bed, kneeling in front of it as they worked together in putting all the beads in, Holly having unknowingly helped in how the picture of a bunny was in it—a picture that soon got swallowed up by the beads that covered every inch of space. Which it had to be, otherwise this wouldn't work.

When the last beads were in, Dustin said, "Okay, that's it. Go, go, go."

"Yeah, okay," Lucas replied, grabbing the cord and putting it in an available socket.

Immediately the LiteBrite blazed to vibrant rainbow light and Dustin asked, "Okay, you guys seeing this?"

In response, the lights pulsed brighter.

"Holy shit!" Erica exclaimed as Dustin laughed and Alistair punched the air in victory, Cami yelling, "Oh my God, it worked! Can't believe it freaking worked!", before she hugged Lucas, which he returned.

When the celebration ended, Dustin informed, "We're not moving it, but we're gonna unplug it. Standby."

Turning to Lucas, he commanded, "Yank it."

Lucas did so, and the light turned off.

But if their guess was correct... the LiteBrite didn't need to be turned on for there to be light.

'Okay, try it now," Dustin said.

A second later, they got a response, as a letter formed in the LiteBrite.
