Chapter one
"Fresh meat."

Freshman year.

Standing in line outside the gym, Caroline Hudson's heart was beating in her chest, as she was now next in line to walk in there and tryout for the cheerios, the high school cheerleading squad at McKinley high who seemed to never lose having multiple trophies in the trophy case and then some and according to her older brother, being apart of it was the only way she was gonna survive high school.

Although, there was a slight problem "walk out and never come back! I mean it, you think there gonna be able to lift you up let alone you be able to hold another person up without crumbling to the floor from the amount of cookies you cram down your throat everyday!" a women was yelling, and not just any women but Sue Sylvester, the leader who she was gonna have to be standing in front of once these doors open again.

In which as they did so, a bigger girl in size compared to Caroline came running out crying as she turned down the hallway, past of the rest of the girls in line, this women was ruthless, and that girl wasn't the only who left crying others did as well and some didn't even say anything which was much, much worse "who's next!" Sue yelled, in which Caroline walked forward and pushed open the door to the gym and began walking inside.

Where the sound of her sneakers hitting the gym floor was the only thing that could be heard as she walked up to the women in a red track suit sitting at the table and stopped not that far in front of her, but before she could even do anything, Sue began talking as she looked her up and down seeming to size her up "you're a small one aren't you." she told her as Caroline furrowed her brows "is that a question.." she was going to ask her as Sue interrupted her "let me stop you right there. You came here today thinking you were gonna be a cheerio, but the thing is you're not gonna go anywhere, okay? You're gonna end up picking up garbage on the side of the road or working at breadsticks making sure people have enough salad." she told her.

In which Caroline was only more confused "I didn't even do anything." she told her "no, but see you don't have too! I can already just by the way you walked in and with the way you dress.." Sue told her as Caroline looked down at her leggings and grey cropped hoodie wondering what was wrong with it "that you just don't have star power. You're nothing." Sue told her, as Caroline lifted her head up "and the look of confusion and shock on your face has made my day grand, you can go now." Sue told her "thank you?" Caroline questioned, as she turned walking to double doors.

Making it to them, she pushed them open and stepped out, holding the door open enough so the next girl could walk in and as she headed down the hallway, she saw all the other girls staring at her confused face, all wondering if she made it, not being able to tell.

And as the school day went on, all Caroline could think about during class was that maybe she didn't have star power like Sue said. How all the dance classes her mom signed her up for and singing covers of songs at the school talent shows through elementary school and middle school giving her a want to write her own songs. To always having begged her mother to take her to see the glee clubs compete although it was mostly for vocal adrenaline who always put on a great performance although she slightly might be bias seeing as four years ago they had a freshman Jessie St James added to their group and he quickly became the star of their show and the only reason Caroline even went to see them. Would all amount to nothing because she was exactly that, nothing.

In which that night, Caroline was sitting at the kitchen table eating dinner with her brother and mother "so, how'd tryouts go?" their mother asked as Finn looked up from his plate to look at her as Caroline took a deep breath, looking up at both of them "um, well, let's just say I didn't exactly get to try out.." she shared as their mother furrowed her brows "what? What does that mean?" she asked "well, I walked in and the women took one look at me and said I would either be working at breadsticks or picking up garbage on the side of the road." Caroline shared, forcing a smile as Finn chuckled "I'm sure she was just joking.." he told her as Caroline turned and looked at him, smile dropping "she said I was nothing, Finn. I doubt that was a joke." she told him, slamming her hands on the table and getting up.
