The First Day

The train journey was long.
Naturally it was rammed full of workers as well as students, so you couldn't get a space that was comfortable for your wings, and so you ended up packed like a sardine between a bunch of people you didn't know.
Many of whom decided it was acceptable to touch your wings purposefully.
You grit your teeth and bare it, unable to do too much without injuring other people as well as the ones touching you.

You startle when you hear a small: "Um, excuse me?"

Turning your head, you're faced with a plain looking boy with a mass of green curls and freckles speckling his face.
You recognise him somehow, but you can't have been in the same school as him previously as he's wearing a UA uniform just like you.
His face lights up the second you look at him, green eyes practically twinkling with joy.

"I knew it was you! I recognised the wings!" He exclaims, drawing the attention of others in the carriage. "You took down that bank robber a month ago! Broke like half his body with one shove! So cool."

You look around in embarrassment, shifting your wings closer against your back.

"So are those wings just super strong or can you do other things with them too?" He asks, scrambling to get into his backpack, pulling out a battered notebook. "Can you fly? Well, probably not if you're on the train, huh?"

This kid just doesn't stop talking, his mouth going a mile a minute, not even offering small breaks for you to answer even if you could.

"You even beat the number two hero, Hawks, to that bank robber! Shoved him to the ground before his feathers could even touch him!" He continues shamelessly. "I saw your picture in the news! Uh, what was your name again...?"

He finally shuts up for a minute, going into an almost comical thinking pose as he tries to recall your name.
You're too caught up in what he just told you about Keigo to care about the fact he didn't remember your name.
You take his silence as a chance to pull your phone out and begin to communicate back.

'What about Endeavor?' You ask in message form and shove it towards his face.

You never liked the miserable flame-faced fuck anyway, but he did his job well from what you understood. You find it hard to believe that Keigo had overtaken him in the rankings.
The green-haired boy blinks at the question before his eyes roll up to you in surprise.

"Seriously? You don't know?" He asks.

The announcement for your stop interrupts your conversation and you both struggle to get through the crowd of people on the train.
He doesn't stop hounding you the second your feet touch the platform though, giving a rerun of how All Might fell from his position of number one hero in Japan, and how Keigo quickly overtook Best Jeanist, and then just began listing out the top ten rankings of heroes with no encouragement from you whatsoever as you walk beside him in silence.

"And then Ryukyu is number ten... hey, I don't think I've seen you at UA before. What course are you in? Are you a first year student?" He begins asking. "I'm in class 1A! I feel like I definitely would have noticed you before, your wings kinda make you stand out, and well, I find quirks kind of interesting and people at school tend to talk about people if they've been in the news before and how come you aren't really talking?"

He scratches the back of his neck. "Am I rambling too much? I'm sorry."

You pause mid-step to stare at this chatterbox, you had been in the middle of texting Keigo who was worrying about whether you had gotten to UA safely.

"Oh that's right! I'm Izuku Midoriya. Nice to meet you! What was your name again?" He holds his hand out expectantly.

You glance at it, noticing the scars on it.
You look back up at his face, to see his eyes closed as he gives you the most genuine smile anyone had ever given you before.
You weren't used to being welcome.
So you gingerly take his hand, giving it a single shake before dropping it to your side again.
