*Authors note. In 1962, an all girls boarding school came under an odd instance where a case of uncontrollable laughter spread throughout the school, and then to 13 other schools, affecting children for a couple of hours, or sometimes for days, the most extreame lasting for 16 days. There have been other cases of this, dating back to the 1600's. All from one joke.
Of course this is not a detailed depiction of those events. This is a fictionalized event, and dramatized for effect...
Day one of infection:
Kelly approached the school, panphlets clutched in her hands, and an empty book bag on her back. Being a new transfer is never easy. She walked through the gates and into the main courtyard. The building wrapped around the main courtyard in a large semi circle. It seemed to be a resting period, seeing as the majority of the student body must have been out and about, either sitting on the benches or by the water fouintian in the dead center. There was a pack of girls, gathered near the front of the gate. Kelly approached them, pamphlets held out. "Um, where is class 106-B?"
The other girls looked her up and down for a moment, like birds of prey. "Are you new?" One of the girls, a tall blonde, asked.
"I haven't seen you around here before." Another one chimed in. They shared a giggle amongst themselves. "New girls don't do so well around here, do they Shelby?" a brunette in the group said aloud. The blonde agknowleged, Kelly figured that this must have been Shelby.
She turned over to the right, and pointed to a section near the end piece. "It's over there, first floor, just read the signs and you can't miss it. On the hand she was pointing with was a watch, fastened on the wrist. She caught a glance of the time and sighed. "You might want to hurry. If I'm right, you're about to be late." She turned her hand over so Kelly could see the time.
"Oh no." Kelly muttered. "Thanks for your help!" she shouted before running off.
Behind her she could catch Shelby saying "Her times short anyway."
The rude girl began giggiling, and continued until she was out of hearing range for Kelly. However, just before Kelly entered the building she also caught Shelby saying "It wasn't that funny."

Kelly rushed into the classroom, which had sadly already been filled. Shelby was right, class had already started, and now everyone was looking at her awkwardly. "Oh I guess you're the new girl then huh?" The teacher said, setting down his books and standing to greet her. He was a tall but thin fellow with deep brown eyes. "Nice to meet you, though I do hope you wont make a habit of being late."
"Oh no, of course not!" She replied quickly. She looked around the classroom, taking note of it's features. It certainly seemed designed specifically for an English class. Their were imitation paintings of famous poets and novelists scattered throughout the room, possibly put up by the teacher himself. On the other side of the classroom was a wall of windows, letting in plenty of sunlight to keep the students wide awake.
"They all say that." He then pointed to an empty seat in the middle of the class room. "Take a seat over there, it's the only empty seat we have at the moment."
She wandered over to the desk, and sat down. She was feeling the shame that was coming with her tardiness. Though she had no idea she would be thrown into the classes so quickly. "So I take it you're Kelly, can I call you Kelly, or do you prefer something else?"
"No that's fine." She replied.
"Well you can call me mister Kyle." He smiled. "Well great, now we can get on with the class. First things first, we will be going over a couple favorite pieces of lititure of mine."
