Everyone uses "Google Earth" at some point. Most people decide to only use this fantastic device as a means to see the roofs of their houses. I am no exception to the rule, but I use it for other reasons, and maybe more than I should of. I was mostly just a lonely and bored teen in high school, with nothing better to do with my time. I will admit I'm not a productive person, and I'm rather lazy, but that is to be expected when you are stuck in Pasadena, where there is literally nothing to do. I also wasn't the best with groups of people so I never really got out much. Because of this I liked to use "Google Earth" to travel around the world and see different places in my spare time.

I had visited any place that you could think of. Great wall of china, Empire state building, the Colosseum, London bridge, mount Rushmore, and many other places. However there was one place that I had never thought to visit. The leaning tower of Pisa. It never seemed like it would be so grand, but with my excess of free time I eventually worked my way to it.

I went onto "Google Earth" one night and typed in: 43.722957° N, 10.396623° E. For those of you that don't know, that is the coordinates for The Leaning Tower of Pisa. It zoomed in, and I waited for it to load. It remained this dark shade of black. I waited for about five minutes, but it never changed. I had never seen it take so long to load, and quite frankly it was worrying. Eventually I had the bright idea to zoom out. When I did I saw that the shades brightened slowly, eventually turning into a dark brown. That was when I finally realized what I was looking at. I was looking at a giant crater. I didn't know what to think. First I checked the coordinates on-line and saw they were the same, no differences, and then I thought it would be wise to scroll around. The crater went on for a disturbing distance. It was roughly a couple hundred miles across. I thought it was just a texture glitch. Something wrong with the coloring scheme, but as I further examined the surroundings I eventually came across mountains of rubble and debris.

Just to see if the problem was occurring on other parts of the map I checked around and was happy to see that there were no other places scathed. I was saddened to see that it was still there when I returned my focus to it. I thought it would be fixed if that area was reloaded, but was proved wrong. I was starting to wonder what it really was.

I went down to street view and saw that there were a large amount of pedestrians running away from the crater in all directions.

The graphics were improved, I could tell that much. I could make out everyones faces, most were crying. I came across a few who were getting ready for what looked like suicide. Most already had the ropes hanging. All of the people were dirtied and their cloths were tattered. I was sure now that this was no glitch, but I was curious if someone was playing a joke. Maybe placing an image they made over what should actually me there, that would explain the fantastic quality, but it didn't seem like a very good joke. Morbid at the least.

I continued the search around, and found that there were still some people close to the crater. A few of them peering down into it. One person in particular was jumping into it. I started taking screen shots, I was sure no one would believe me otherwise. I was sure that other people were saying the same thing, and so it would be shown on the news tomorrow.

I still felt unsettled. Something about it was still so wrong. There was something else that I was missing. I continued looking at the people, until I found one that had a newspaper. Again the quality was excellent, and I could read all of the writing. In big text was written "It has come!" I thought "it" was a strange word to say. Surely they would have used a better descriptive word, especially for something so big. I later found out it was because there was no descriptive word for it.

I noticed something else about the paper, the date said: October 30th, 2100. That was far into the future. Then it struck me, the news paper was in English... And then I looked at the man holding it. First I must tell you, I already have my left ear pierced with a deep blue chain ear ring. And I was planning to get snake bites later in life. This man had both of those, he had the ear ring, and he had the snake bites. He was a very aged man, well into his nineties. He appeared as though he was looking me straight in the eyes. But something still felt off.

That was when my computer shut down. When I booted it back up I checked "Google Earth" again, but found nothing strange. It was back to normal. Next I checked my pictures for the screen shots. All of them were deleted except for one. It was a picture of the crater. In it I could faintly see two glowing green eyes. I deleted that picture as well. I had found the other thing I was missing, and I was sorry I found it.

I don't know what it was, and I haven't told anyone about that. There wasn't any news stories about it either. I don't know what it was, but I guess I might find out one day. Though I hope it doesn't happen.
