Everything will be explained later, you need not worry about that. At the start of the day, I was wearing sunglasses, a baseball cap, and a raincoat of sorts. I was sitting at a table; my friends were all staring at me with anticipation, and curiosity, wondering why my fashion choice was chosen. And I wasted no time. “I wanted this dinner for a reason. I’m leaving town tonight.”
My friends looked at me, worried a little. “Everything alright?” One of them asked.
I nodded. “Yeah, I’m fine. I just think it’s time for me to travel.”
“Ah, where are you going?” The same guy asked.
“No idea, not yet at least, but I wish I did know. But I think I need to just find my own way, you know?”
The female directly to his right asked, “Do you already have a place picked out or something like that?”
Silly girl. I had just said I had no clue where I might be going with my life. It always changes. “No, and no contact information either. But I don’t want you guys to worry, I’ll be fine, but there will be no contact information either.” Something swirled in my stomach, and my scalp became itchy. It would be coming sooner than I thought. My friends were looking at me oddly; they must have noticed my momentary distress. “I’m sorry; I’ll have to be going soon.”
“Are you okay? Are you in some kind of trouble, cause that get-up is unusual for you.” The guy sitting to my right asked.
“I’m fine, no trouble… And I have a rash going on; don’t think you guys needed to see that.”
The waiter finally arrived, not too soon, with several plates of food. I had neglected to order, knowing I might have to leave early. Though I was already pushing it, it isn’t safe to drive when the change happens. I began to get up, readying myself to leave. “Where are you going? Aren’t you going to stay for a while?” The guy directly across from me asked.
I sighed. “You guys are making this harder than I want it to be.” I stepped past the others and away from the table. “This is goodbye, I must leave now.”
“You can’t leave yet. It is your birthday after all.” The female said.
I do believe it was my fault. I should have told them I would have been leaving on my birth day, I know that much. But I didn’t want to ruin the mood, and the friendships, earlier than it had to. But that didn’t mean I could stay later, I had no control over that. “Goodbye.” I said with a final edge to it. Harsher than I had intended, but no choice in the matter.
The man who had been sitting infront of me stood up. “You know what? You’re kind of being a dick about all of this, you know? I mean honestly, we came here for you, and now that we have gathered, you tell us that you’re leaving, and that we won’t be able to contact you? Exactly who do you think you are, doing this to us?”
It was a good question, and one that needed answering. But it was not I who had the answers to his particular dilemma, for he and I shared the same problem. Neither one of us knew where this was going. I could have told them everything, but it wouldn’t have made any difference. For one they wouldn’t have believed me, and it would have just made the situation worse. That was something I was trying my hardest to avoid. “I have no answer for any of you. I’m being honest here. Please don’t push.”
The one to my right had a look of understanding cross her face. “Oh my gosh, I get it.”
All of us respectively looked at her in confusion. “Get what?” The man who was standing asked.
