Robert awoke to his bedside phone ringing. He looked over to the other side of the bed, and saw that it was empty. His wife was probably already at work, though he hadn't looked over at the clock yet, he just had a feeling. He reached over, and picked up the phone, already guessing who it was. "Hello?" He asked, knowing his voice reflected his overall conscience level.

"Hey." Came back a chirpy female voice. His wife's voice.

A smile crossed his face. "Hey! I see you left early. Work called you in sooner than usual?"

"Something like that." She replied. The tone sounded serious, more so than she usually had, but still it had a playful undertone. "I was just calling to check up on you, after last night. I know sometimes I can take a little more out than I usually want to."

"More energy?" He asked.

"Of course, thank goodness you have spares. So how was last night, are you feeling okay?"

He smiled. "Last night was great, best in a while."

There was a pause on the other side, but only for a second. "Good, always happy to hear the comments of a satisfied customer."

To be playful as well he replied with. "And what about unsatisfied customers."

This response was instant. "I don't like those so much."

"And was it good for you?"

"Always."

Today was one of Roberts few days off from work, and for that he would always take her out to lunch when she was one her break. He figured he might as well ask her where she would want to go while he had her on the phone. "So, about lunch-"

She interrupted him before he could say anymore. "Oh, I can't do lunch. I'm in the middle of something that really requires my full attention. Maybe another time."

He sighed. "Maybe. Well, I guess I'll see you when you get here."

She tutted him from the phone. "You might not."

"How so?"

"I won't get there until later tonight. I'm working late. But don't worry, I'll be there, always will. But hey, I really have to get going."

He smiled. "Alright then"

"See you tonight." And with that she hung up.

It was one of their shorter conversations over the phone, but yet one of his more enjoyable. He too hung up the phone and got up out of bed, then started removing his clothing.

His day was then ruined by two words. "Good morning!" His wife called from the kitchen. "What do you want for breakfast?"

One thing was for certain, that was his wife in the kitchen. But the next question was, who happened to be the person on the phone. And with one look in the mirror, he found that it was someone he would never want to meet again. A cut had been made across his back, possibly removing one of his kidneys. It was a clean cut, not sloppy, and was stitched back up with impressive precision, but not comforting.

When he looked over to the bed, he saw that his side of the mattress was only slightly sprinkled with blood.
