"It's cozy, ain't it?" Jim, a fellow guard exclaimed of the small and cramped office space that he would be working out of. "Kyle right? You're a new recruit and they already have you working the 10 to 6 shift." Jim stood in the doorway, watching him.
Kyle swiveled in his chair, taking in the sight of the office space he had been given. There was a desk, a phone (which he had been told doesn't work anymore anyway), and a fan which looked as though it was ready to break down at any moment. "Yeah, I told them I didn't mind late shifts. Next thing I knew they were putting me on this shift. Can't say I mind though." He picked up the small monitor, which was set on the main dining hall, and focused in on a group of kids laughing and dancing. "I don't like people so much. So six hours alone to myself is a god send."
Jim chuckled. "Oh never alone." He looked down the hallway at the animatronics. "I've heard some crazy nightshift stories.
Kyle focused on the animatronics, zooming in. "Do they move at night?"
Jim nodded. "Yeah, the basic stuff. It's to keep the devices from freezing. They're so old at this point that if they were to outright stop, they would fall apart."
Kyle nodded solemnly. He stayed zoomed in, wanting to study them. Bonnie, the big loveable bunny, mostly purple. Chica the yellow chick and female of the group, who also loves to wear a bib around her neck. Then of course there was Freddy, the big bear who carries around a mic so he can sing into it. The whole cast was on that stage, except for one, Foxy. Though he appreciated the job and loved the night shift, he didn't like anything that moved, without being alive. "I'll get used to it. So have you ever worked a night shift?"
Jim went wide eyed for a brief second. "N-No, I haven't. Odd thing is, none of our current staff have, except for a select few, most who do leave soon after. The only reason I'm here to train you, is because I've had the most 'word of mouth' experience." He finally came through the door, and stood next to Kyle. He pointed to the buttons next to the door. "It's really simple, one button turns on the light out in the hall, the other closes the door. Be careful though, because of our limited funds you only have so much energy per night the company is willing to use. If you burn through that power by playing with lights and such, then you'd be powerless for the rest of the night."
Kyle noticed a green bar on the monitor. "So I guess this green bar is the power meter."
"Yeah, in times of extreme crisis we have a power generator in the basement. The door for which is in the dining hall, it is unlocked at night so you'd be able to access it but don't rely on it." Jim pushed one of the door buttons, shutting down the left door. It landed with a loud bang, startling Kyle. "This is one of the two doors."
Kyle studied the door. It was not only sturdy, but thick as well. "Not even a well-equipped fireman could break through that thing. What if the power goes out, wouldn't the doors go down, and stay down?"
Jim pushed the button again, allowing it to open. "When the power goes out, the doors go up." Jim pointed to a spot above the door where there was a complex series of chains. "It's designed like that to prevent you from being trapped." Jim looked around the corner again. "Okay, well I think you're set up and ready to go. I have some clean up to do, then once the families leave and the crew locks up, you'll be all alone."
"Just the way I like it."
Kyle looked over to the clock which displayed 10:50 in bright green letters. Time passed fast here.

By 11 o'clock the families had left and after another hour, the lights shut off, music ceased, and the animatronics shut off.
