A few days prior

Lois scoffed before she said, "I don't understand why we have to move almost all of the time. Why can't we just stay here?"

General Lane sighed. "I understand your frustration, Lois. However, I have told you many times before that I am a General in the U.S. Army. I have to go wherever they send me, and you have to go with me. Because you are too young to live on your own." General Lane was exacerbated as he replied.

Lois looked angrily at her father as she asked. "Why Kansas of all places, and why can't I live with you at Fort Riley?"

General Lane rubbed his forehead. "We have gone over that before. I was ordered to spend the rest of time there until I retire." General Lane looked at Lois before he continued. "I contacted some friends of mine and asked them if you could stay with them to live a normal teenage life that you have always wanted. It will only be temporary until I retire and find us a home in Smallville. Besides, they have a daughter about your age and could have something in common with you." General Lane replied while trying to keep his temper.

Lois scoffed before he imitated a country accent as she said, "Oh yeah. I am sure we will have lots in common. I am sure she will be able to take me cow tippin' or where the most popular barn bash is at."

General Lane sighed. "Lois, please give her and all of this a try. You may find out that you like the normal, peaceful life in the town that I grew up in. If you do, I will buy you a car." General Lane was pleading as he replied.

Lois thought it over before she sighed and said, "Fine. I will give this a try for you, but you better keep your word on the car." Lois took a deep breath before she continued. "When do we leave, and when is my first day at the new high school?"

General Lane smiled. "Thank you, and I have always kept my promises to you. We fly out late Thursday. You will start classes on Friday. You will start to live at the Kent's Farm after school the same day." General Lane said before he breathed out a sigh of relief.

Lois frowned before she said, "Fine. Don't expect me to be best friends with her if she is annoying or dumb. What is her name anyways?"

General Lane smirked. "I see that you are now interested in her. Her name is Kara Kent. She is the adoptive daughter of my long-time friends Jonathan and Martha Kent." General Lane paused before he continued. "From what I have heard, she may surprise you." General Lane said warmly.

Lois scoffed before she said, "I highly doubt that, but I will wait and judge for myself."

They talked for some time before they began to pack. The next day, the movers came to pack away their belongings. General Lane made sure that Lois' clothes would be sent to the Kent farm in Smallville. Lois packed the stuff that she would need before the rest of her stuff would arrive. They ate out Wednesday night and all three meals Thursday. They took a cab to the airport where they checked in their bags, went through TSA screenings, and made it to their terminal on time. When it was time, they took their seats. Soon, the plane took off and gained altitude before seatbelt signs turned off. The flight attendants served drinks and snacks since it was going to be a short flight. Lois listened to music on her phone with earbuds as General Lane napped beside her. Lois took the window seat. They were getting closer to Metropolis and one of the pilots started to go over local time, weather, and expected time of arrival when he was suddenly cut short when the entire plane shook violently. The air masks suddenly deployed as the fasten seat belt signs lit up. Everyone screamed as they quickly put their air masks on. Lois quickly looked out her window as the plane shook violently once more. She could see smoke coming out of one engine and the other was lit up from a fire. The plane shook violently a third time before the plane began to plummet from the sky. Lois closed her eyes as expected the worst before the plane suddenly slowed down and leveled out. Everyone is the plane looked around and were amazed to be still alive. One of the pilots came over the intercom. He tried to sound confident, but his voice was still shaky. Lois watched out her window and knew that the plane was flying lower than normal. Soon, she could see the lights of what she could assume as an airport and emergency vehicles waiting for them. Lois felt the wheels come down and the plane slowly descend until the tires without even the normal bump. The plane soon came to a stop as Lois stared out the window. She suddenly saw a set of bright blue eyes floating even with her window as she stared in awe. Lois blinked and the eyes were gone. After some more time, everyone was let off the plane and were taken into the airport. Lois and General Lane waited for their bags. They took a cab to Smallville where they rented a hotel room. The next morning, Jonathan Kent came to pick them up and take them to Smallville High School. General Lane led Lois to the main office and to the principal's office. Principal Mantis warmly welcomed them. After everything was checked and looked in order, Principal Mantis called on the intercom for Kara Kent to come to the principal's office. After a couple of minutes, they heard a knock on the door before Lois heard a kind voice.
