The whole day Michael waited and waited for midnight to hit. He was rushing the day not being able to keep Liliana off his mind. As if she was his child, he made sure Lisa went to sleep early so he could have an uninterrupted night on the phone with Liliana.
When the time finally came, he didn’t know if he should wait awhile or call right then and there at 12 exactly. He didn’t want to seem desperate so he waited.
He gathered questions in his head. The main objective was setting up a time to meet little Mikey. Then he wanted to know exactly what the letter said.
It was 12:05 and he picked up the phone and dialed the number, just waiting to hear her sweet voice like old times.
“Hello?”
Michael’s heart skipped a beat when he heard the little boys voice on the other end. He was frozen for a second and didn’t know if he should’ve hung up or said something.
“Hellooo?” Mikey said again.
“Mikey! Go to bed!” Michael heard Liliana yell. “Hello?”
“Hi,” he said nervous.
“You’re late.”
“Sorry.” He looked at the clock again.
“I didn’t think you would really call so I walked away from the phone.”
“And he doesn’t have a bedtime?”
“He’s a night owl and it’s the weekend. But don’t worry, I sent him to his room so I’m all yours.”
Michael grinned. He knew she wasn’t flirting with him but it felt like she was, so he pretended. “Well when can I meet him?”
“Whenever you want.”
“How about tomorrow?”
“Wow.” She wasn’t expecting it to be so soon. She just met him the other day. “You’re not busy?”
“Tomorrow? No. It’s Sunday, a relaxing day, you should bring him here to Neverland or I can have a car pick you up.”
“A car to pick us up?”
“Yes…or a helicopter.”
Liliana laughed.
Michael just loved the sound of her laughter. “Whatever you prefer. Whatever he prefers. It’ll be his day.”
“You know what? He would absolutely love to meet you tomorrow at Neverland and you don’t have to send a helicopter. A car would be fine,” she said laughing again.
