May 1996

Liliana was working late at the office.  Her phone rang so she ran to her desk to pick it up.

"Hello?"

"Still working?"  Michael asked.

"Yes.  Where are you?"

"I'm back home."

"Oh,really?"  She tried to hide her excitement.  She hadn't seen him in three weeks.  "I'll be home soon."

"Just...I got us a hotel room in hotel near you so you don't have to drive here."

"You did?"

"Yes but I won't be there for another hour so take your time, okay?"

Something seemed fishy to her.  "Umm, okay.  But, which hotel?"

"Our usual.  Same place, same room."

"Okay.  I'll see you soon."

"Come at midnight.  Not exactly at midnight but just before."

Liliana raised her eyebrow thinking what he could possibly be up to.  "Okayyy.  I love you."

"Love you too."  Michael hung up the phone and prepared for her surprise.

When Liliana arrived at the hotel, there was a single rose taped to the door.  She instantly smiled and took it in her possession.  She used her key card and opened the door.

'Awww, he's being romantic tonight.'   She noticed the dimmed lights and rose petals on the floor.  She walked in and shut the door.  She set her bag down and followed the trail of the red petals up the stairs.  She saw Michael leaning on the wall, staring out the window.

"Hey," she whispered.

He looked back at her.  "Oh.  I didn't even hear you come in.  You look nice."  She was wearing a pretty red shirt and black skirt with red pumps to match.  Her hair was back to its natural hair color, brown, as well.  She had it straightened.   He walked over to her and held her close to him.

"Thank you.  I missed you."

"You dyed your hair.  I love it.  You look like the cutie I fell in love with back in the day."

They both giggled in each other's ear as they continued to hold on to one another.   They were swaying back and forth.

Michael picked his head up and looked into her eyes.  "I missed you too."  He leaned in and kissed her slowly on the lips.  "Oh, how I've missed you," he laughed.

"Then why are we up here and not downstairs."  She let go and tried to pull him.

"No wait."  He pulled her back to him.  "Look at all I did."

She looked around and noticed the floor covered in rose petals and all the candles lit everywhere.

"This is beautiful.  Thank you."  She grabbed both his hands and kissed him again.  "What's the occasion?"

"I have a few things I want to propose to you."

Liliana rolled her eyes.  "I knew you wanted something."

Michael laughed.  "I love you.  I did this because I love you."

"What do you have to propose?"

Michael looked at the clock and it said 11:50 p.m.  "Well first come sit with me."
