The Bootcamp Mentors are proud to present a spotlight interview with guywortheyauthor author of Séa Gets Lucky. Check out this writer's work and give them a shout out in the comments.

BCM: How did you discover the Bootcamp Mentors and what have you found most valuable about this Wattpad community program?

guyworthyauthor: A couple of years ago, it was announced that the Bootcamp Mentors would be partnering with Pretty In Punk Book Club. I had been a couple of years in PIP by then. Although utterly clueless, I joined the Bootcamp Discord server and was a wallflower there for a while. It seemed like a very well-organized, professional space. When the stars aligned and I had a novel that was suitable for the Wattys, I tossed in an application. The mentorship was the most valuable thing, by far. It was better than what you'd get after tossing $1000 to a pro editor. You listening, eacomiskey?

BCM: What prompted you to start writing on Wattpad and what do you like most about the platform as a writer?

guyworthyauthor: I have an atypical story. I had self-published a series for teens. In looking around for marketing tactics, somebody mentioned that Wattpad was "where the teens are." I thought I might post a story or two and possibly gain a following. Spoiler: didn't happen.

But it's a fun place to post experimental stories and get feedback from the book club I'm in.

BCM: What motivated you to write the story you're submitting to the 2023 Wattys?

guyworthyauthor: Séa Gets Lucky started with me sitting at the computer and wondering, "What shall I write?" Among other ideas, the idea for a low fantasy that contrasted the world views of a thief and a paladin had been sloshing around my skull for a while. I chose that, bashed out an outline, and launched in.

BCM: If you had to describe your story in three words, what would they be?

guyworthyauthor: Loveable lesbian peril

BCM: Tell us one thing about your writing process that has helped you the most.

guyworthyauthor: This one was boosted when I followed the "hero's journey" outline AND a romance outline. The two are easy to mesh together in the first half, but really hard toward the end.

BCM: Share two Wattpad story recommendations.

guyworthyauthor: I enjoyed many stories, lately. I can't find the really good one with pirates (the author must have taken it down), but I loved a goofy-dark Victorian yarn by quatrecentvingttt called Leavitt Stafford and the Awful, Terrible, Not Very Nice Plan

I also loved an incomplete story by pixelmum called The Golden Apples of the Sun. That one's, I guess, a crossover fanfic where Lara Croft and Diana the amazon meet. Romance sparks as they race to keep the Golden Apple out of the hands of baddies.

Humor is the common denominator there. Right now, I really can't intake stuff that takes itself too seriously.

Thank you, guywortheyauthor. We wish you all the best in your writing endeavors.
