The Bootcamp Mentors are proud to present a spotlight interview with BlueStarrySky1 , author of So You Might be Soulless. Check out this writer's works and give them a shout out in the comments.

BCM: What prompted you to start writing on Wattpad and what is one thing you find valuable about the platform?

BlueStarrySky1: I'd done some writing when I was younger, but it was nothing serious and I stopped after some time due to personal reasons. Around four years ago, everyone was talking about Wattpad. I'd decided to download it— for fun— and thought I wouldn't stay for long, but loved it! My favourite part about it is the wonderful community and clubs which provide amazing support for any writer.

BCM: How did you discover the Bootcamp Mentors and what have you found most valuable about this Wattpad community program?

BlueStarrySky1: I believe I'd seen the book being recommended to be on the home page, and thought I would give it a try. What I love about this community is how interactive and helpful everyone is. I had submitted to the Mentorship before, and did not end up getting a mentor, but it was still fine as people in the community were happy to give advice and answer any questions I had!

BCM: What motivated you to write the story you're working on with your mentor?

BlueStarrySky1: I had a conversation in a writing group about a story surrounding a slowburn romance narrated by someone who despises slowburns, and there was the perfect ONC 2024 prompt for this. I ended up being Shortlisted and decided to work on expanding the story into a novel with my mentor.

BCM: If you had to describe your story in three words, what would they be?

BlueStarrySky1: Rewriting fate (literally).

BCM: Tell us one thing about your writing process that has helped you the most.

BlueStarrySky1: Planning my story, even if it was out of order. I used to try and write in a linear fashion, but I found I was hitting writer's block a lot. Writing random scenes and then later fitting them together with the transitions helped make the process much better, along with making a rough plan (a hill drawn on a paper with the 'Beginning', 'Middle', and 'End' written on it) enabled me to stay on track with the narrative. I have a diagram in my room which consists of scrap paper with scribbles stuck to my door connected with black string, and this has helped me see the bigger picture and make links between events!

BCM: Share two Wattpad story recommendations.

BlueStarrySky1: I'm Scared of Heights by EverythingsNothing  .
A wonderful story set in high-school about a girl and boy who work together to maintain a dating platform. Each character has a distinct personality and voice, and the metaphors are brilliant throughout. The message of the book was strong. I loved following Natalie and Winn's story, and this is easily also one of my favourite stories on Wattpad! https://www.wattpad.com/story/333869779-i%27m-scared-of-heights-onc-2023-%E2%9C%94%EF%B8%8F

A Drizzle of Home by TheWildCyde  .
Sweet and wholesome story about a wolf who has lost his memories and has found a home with another pack. The main character is realistic and layered, which makes him a compelling protagonist and I adore the found-family aspect. The writing is beautiful and vivid which really draws you into the story, and it's also one of my favourites! https://www.wattpad.com/story/357640227-a-drizzle-of-home
