The Formula One calendar continued its relentless march and the Japanese Grand Prix marked the next stop on the calendar. There was a break between races, which gave Jono extra training time - his life ruled by simulator practice and workouts as he seemed wholly focussed on winning the championship.

Whilst the team prepared for the race weekend, the impact of the scandal and investigations still hung heavy over Bianchi Racing. Instead of bustling with excitement, the headquarters seemed hushed, weighed down by the mounting challenges we were facing. There was still no certainty about what was happening with the team, but it was common knowledge within the F1 media that there was a consortium interested in taking on Bianchi, and this certainly seemed like a step in the right direction.

After a week of preparation with Matt, James and I all present in the office - the team back together for once, I waved James and Matt off on Tuesday - this was the first race I hadn't attended since Jono and I had been together, but with James desperate to get back out into the field, and now feeling fully recovered, it was his turn.

The days leading up to the Japanese Grand Prix passed in a blur of preparation. Now that James and Matt were at the track and Jono was busy before travelling to Japan, I focussed on meetings, strategy sessions, and constant communication with the race crew to keep me occupied. Not being part of the race weekend energy felt strange now, but I was determined to do everything to support the team as best as I could.

The racetrack was a world away, but its magnetic pull remained, and I found myself immersed in the details, tracking every update as we moved to Quali and eagerly anticipated Jono's performance on the circuit. Amidst the excitement, I received a call from him; his voice carried a mix of nerves and anticipation. I had spoken to him mere hours ago, so his call was unexpected.

"Everything ok?" I asked, trying to conceal the worry in my voice.

"It's all good, I had just got used to seeing you in the garage before I head out. It's nearly time for Quali. Wish me luck?"

"You don't need luck, JC. You've worked hard for this, harder than anyone. Go out there and smash it. I mean, don't really smash it. You know what I mean!" I replied, hearing Jono laugh at what I'd said.

"Yeah, my intention is to not smash it on this one, Ace. I'll call you after, ok? I love you."

"I love you too, Jono. Go well, yeah? Have a great session." I said before hanging up and planting myself firmly in front of the TV in the office. I'd taken a late lunch so that as the session began, I could focus solely on Jono. I felt a mixture of emotions as the camera panned across the track and the cars and I heard the roar of the engines-they were all part of a world that had become an integral part of my life and yet, I remained at the headquarters, miles away from the action.

Even through the screen, the anticipation in the air was palpable as the Japanese Grand Prix weekend got underway. The cars came to life and the engines revved. It was clear that Jono was on a mission from the moment he hit the track. I watched, as his dominance was undeniable - each lap he completed was a master class in precision and control, his familiarity with the circuit evident in every corner he manoeuvred. The screen showed his sector times and with each marker he passed, it flashed up purple as he set the fastest time. I watched with baited breath as he navigated the circuit flawlessly.

Jono's skill behind the wheel was matched only by his determination. With both drivers comfortably into Q1, more of the team surrounded me as we focussed on the screen, watching both Bianchi drivers closely. As Jono crossed the finish line, the cheers erupted. It was a commanding performance, and his time secured him yet another pole position start for the race.

Lorenzo, too, showed his mettle on the track. He fought hard, pushing his car to the limit as he chased after his teammate. The rivalry between Jono and Lorenzo had been a driving force throughout the season, and it was on full display during today's qualifying. There were hundredths between the pair as Lorenzo secured P2, but when he climbed out of the car, you could see the frustration on his face that he couldn't get that coveted pole position.
