Freminet stood in front of his shared bedroom door, his hands were trembling as he gripped a box, almost the size of his head. He balanced the box on his right hand before knocking, a habit he created ever since Lyney and Lynette arrived to the House of the Hearth.

"Come in!", a muffled voice yelled from the other side of the door. Freminet gulped one last time before turning the sparkling, golden knob and letting himself into the room. The room was almost pitch black, the only source of light was shining from an old floor lamp placed in the middle of the beds.

Lyney and Lynette were knelt on the wooden floor with Lyney's top-hat placed upside down on the floor. 'Guess they were practicing magic again' thought Freminet as he walked over to the twins. After a few seconds of silence, Lyney spoke up and asked, "hey Fremi, why'd you arrive late?", Freminet was silent for a while, knowing the both the twins' can tell when he lies.

He carefully walked over to his older siblings, skillfully staying in the darkest parts of the room to hide the oversized box balanced on his arm. Lynette slowly stood up and tossed Lyney's hat over to him before sitting on her respective bed and cocked her head to the side, "everything alright Freminet?", she asked in confusion.

Freminet nodded as he continued moving closer to them both. Both Lyney and Lynette were worried, their younger brother was acting out of character, usually he'd come running up to them if he was late as he had a phobia of the dark. Instinctively, Lyney stood up and moved to be in front of his sister, he was getting increasingly suspicious of Freminet's actions, and Lynette felt the same way, however, she was more scared than protective, the complete opposite of her twin.

After a long silence, with only Freminet's footsteps echoing throughout their room, he walked into the light. Lyney continued to stand his ground, however, he was getting less and less agitated with Freminet's actions. Finally, Freminet was finally standing face-to-face with Lyney, clutching the box with both hands. Both hands...which were shaking.

Lyney finally relaxed after noticing that Freminet was worried. He moved from in front of Lynette to sitting beside her, however, he still kept an arm wrapped around her as a sign of protection in case of danger. Freminet slowly shoved the box to the twins', with his eyes closed, scared of their reactions. Lynette slowly took the box from his hands, with Lyney looking over her shoulder in curiosity.

Lynette skillfully unwrapped the box, like she wanted to preserve the wrapping paper. It was decorated with little drawn-on magician hats and little kitties that look like Lyney and Lynette's favourite plushies. Freminet slowly opened his eyes to watch the twins' reactions, their eyes were both glistening against the light of the lamp, like the decorated box was the best thing they've ever seen.

Finally, after all the wrapping paper was removed, Lyney and Lynette took one half of the lid and slowly removed it with shaking hands. Freminet was standing in front of them, not knowing what to door to say to them, they seem scared, but he doesn't blame them, who wouldn't be scared? Suddenly, he heard sniffles from in front of him...

Lyney and Lynette were staring at the box, Lynette was crying and Lyney had the biggest smile that he had personally ever seen on someone's face. They both looked at Freminet, who quickly looked away and was twiddling his thumbs, 'did they not like it?' was the only thought that was running around in his mind.

Lynette slowly moved the box to sit on Lyney's lap and wrapped her arms around Freminet. He jumped a little at the unexpected action, tears were still running down her cheeks and making a new home on Freminet's shoulder. "Thank you! We love it! It's the best thing we've ever been given!" she cried into his shoulder, Freminet looked back at Lyney, who suddenly became teary-eyed as he gripped the box.

Freminet patted Lynette's back as she continued crying and thanking him, like it was one of the last things she'll ever be able to say to him. After a few minutes, she retracted from the hug and wiped her eyes with her shirt sleeve, she had a small smile on her face as she swiftly returned to her original seat and patted the small space next to her, "come, sit down".

Freminet nodded as he sat in the middle of the twins, and looked inside of the box, at his handiwork. Freminet took some paper towels that he stole from the kitchen minute's earlier and gave each one to the twins, both accepting it with excitement. Soon enough, he was met with the present that he spent the most time on for them...

A small part chocolate, part vanilla, birthday cake was staring at the three children, the cake was a little small, but enough for the three of them. It was half-blue half-red. With a messily iced on magician's hat drawn on the red side of the cake with glitter coming out of it, identical to the one that was next to Lyney. The blue side had an equally messily iced-on cat, it was black and blue with a small star that replaced one eye, identical to Lynette's favourite plush that she always carried around with her.

To tie the cake all together, there was black writing on the top of the cake. Equally as messy as the little drawings of their most prized possessions, but still readable:

🎈 Happy Birthday Lyney and Lynette!! 🎈

"This is the best birthday present ever!", shouted Lynette as she and Lyney both cut into the cake. Lyney nodded in agreement as he and Freminet watched her eat her slice of the cake, each bite she took, her smile grew wider. Lyney turned his attention back to his slice of cake as he took a bite of it as Freminet watched, it was his first time baking a cake in his life, he watched Lyney in anticipation for what he was going to comment.

Each bite Lyney took, he became more and more shocked. The cake was perfect, the taste was exquisite and each mouthful exploded with flavour. The chocolate wasn't too bitter, but the vanilla wasn't too sweet either, perfectly balancing each other out. Wait... he quickly tuned to Freminet, he was staring at him with anticipation shining in his eyes, "so... what do you think?", he quietly asked as he looked beyond Lyney.

Lyney leaned in, making eye contact with his baby brother and giggled a bit. "It's perfect Fremi! I love it, never knew you had a baking talent!", he shone a bright smile, causing Freminet to smile back at him. He nudged Freminet's arm a little "guess someone else agrees with me" he whispered before pointing at Lynette. Freminet giggled a little as Lynette was already halfway through the birthday cake. "Lynetteeeeeee!! Save some for me! It's my cake too!", Lynette quickly turned her attention from the delicious cake to her brother, frowning at him in the process, "come and get some then" said Lynette, turning back into her grumpy self.

Lyney let out a childish laugh, "guess you like what Freminet made", Lynette had since moved her attention back to her slice of cake before smiling at it "of course I do, the flavour is amazing and the design was adorable too!" she said, excitement flooding her voice as she scooped up another chunk of cake and placed it into her mouth.

Soon enough, Lyney managed to pry the box our of Lynette's grip and slid it under their shared bunk-bed. Much to Lynette's irritation. Freminet carefully climbed into his bed whilst Lyney and Lynette got into their respective beds, after everyone was in bed and comfortable. Two small whispers could be heard amongst the darkness: "thank you Fremi" Lyney whispered before Lynette's voice chipped in "this was the best birthday ever!" she whisper-shouted.

That night, all 3 of the siblings, for the first time, fell asleep with big smiles on their faces. Yes. Even Lynette.
