(TW: Self harm mentions and suicide mentions)
The room was filled with silence. The only sounds was the sound of the rain pouring down outside the window, violently hitting the window, creating loud bangs against the glass. Freminet sat across from his siblings, who were just staring at him, no words were said between them.
Freminet gripped his little penguin in his hands. The silence was awkward and uncomfortable, it was weird to see his siblings so quiet, especially Lyney...he was always the first one to break the silence. He looked back up from his robot to meet his brother and sister's eyes, he tensed up a bit in fear.
Lyney sighed before Lynette interrupted him, "arms. Now" she ordered as she holds her hands out in front of her. Demanding Freminet to hold out his arms, Freminet's eyes widened, 'they...they don't know...do they?' he thought as he reluctantly moved his arms forward. Lynette's patience was growing thin with every passing second, as soon as Freminet's arms were starting to move, she moved forward and gripped the middle of his forearm.
Freminet winced in pain. But immediately regretted it as Lyney's eyes quickly darted to his arms, taking his right arm from Lynette's hand. Lynette stared at his arm in silence before speaking, "last chance. Tell us what's happening before we find out ourselves", she was threatening. Freminet squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head, he was stubborn, but not as stubborn as Lynette. This discovery was inevitable. He knew it.
Lynette sighed in annoyance, "your choice" she mumbled before she slowly rolled up his sleeve. Lyney stayed frozen in place, his grip was softer, he had a sympathetic look on his face as he just stared down at his sleeved arm. Not wanting to face his sister, nor his brother for that matter. Finally, Freminet opened his eyes after what felt like years...
He met his sister's eyes, locked on his. She lifted up his arm slowly and placed it on the nightstand before standing up and walking to the window with her head facing down to the floor. Freminet watched her leave, feeling regret for what he's done. He looked over at Lyney, who was just staring at his revealed arm, with tears forming in his once-bright eyes, he looked back up at Freminet looking like he's about to break.
He stood up and walked over to him and wrapped his arms around his neck, pulling him into a much needed cuddle. A few sniffles came from Lyney as he gripped his baby brother's pyjama shirt as tight as he could, "h-how...how..h-how long?" he whispered into his ear. Freminet hesitated before replying, "a-a few years...I didn't want...you to know", guilt washed over him like a tidal wave, the feeling of his happy-go-lucky brother now breaking down...
Freminet looked over at Lynette, who was still staring out the window. Her eyes were shining against the moonlight and tear stains could be seen on her cheeks. She didn't make a sound. Not even a hiccup. She was just...silent.
Lyney continued crying into Freminet's back, holding him tightly. Lynette walked over from the window to where Freminet was sitting, still with her head facing the floor, hiding the mess of emotions she was feeling. She patted her twin's back and rubbed circles repeatedly, her eyes were on Freminet whilst doing so, however, she didn't look angry...more like...guilty.
Lynette sighed again, this time it was dripping with sadness. She mumbled, "I'll get you bandages, please...please tell us what happened though", she sounded like she was going to burst into tears, just like Lyney. Lyney was silently crying into Freminet's shirt, so it was strange to hear Lynette speak so much... usually that was Lyney's job.
"Is this why you're always at the sea? Is this why you never take Pers to the ocean? Do you WANT to drown?!!", Lynette shouted, voice flooding with grief. The rain has now picked up outside, Lyney's crying became louder and his grip became tighter, Freminet tensed up. Lynette forcefully lifted up Freminet's chin to make eye contact, "are you TRYING to kill yourself on purpose?! Is this some sort of sick dream you have?!" Lynette shouted again. This time, tears were flowing down her cheeks and landing on her light blue nightgown, her eyes were glistening and all watery, drowning in a mix of anger and sadness.
Freminet didn't answer. Lynette let go of her brother's face immediately after she realised she wasn't getting anywhere. He was shaking violently at the interrogation, tears threatening to spill. His hands formed themselves into fists as he gripped tighter to the bedsheets, hoping it can somehow swallow him whole. Lynette stared at him, still crying, and peeled Lyney from Freminet's body and held him in her arms, all whilst maintaining eye contact.
"Let's go Lyney. Don't bother following us", Lynette snapped at Freminet before standing up and turning her back. Helping Lyney to his feet and balancing him against her shoulder, she slowly walked with a sobbing Lyeny to the door and slowly opened it. She looked back at her baby brother, just staring at her, his eyes were begging her to stay...to comfort him. But she couldn't face him...she just can't find the strength to do so.
Soon enough, she stepped out into the hallway and shut the door behind her, leaving Freminet alone in the shared bedroom with his bare arm to keep him company. She leaned against the wall, listening to Freminet's muffled sobs as her legs finally gave in and she collapsed to the floor alongside Lyeny.
"I...I should've k-known", cried Lynette into her knees, "t-the sig-signs...t-they w-were there!!". Now it was Lyney's turn to rub circles on Lynette's back as she sobbed, both sibling's were filled with guilt...and it was finally bubbling over. The loud sobs of Freminet on the other side of the wall didn't help either... they've officially failed at being older siblings. They couldn't even see the clear signs of depression that their 7 year old brother was showing. Not until the last minute.
The cries of Lynette echoed throughout the orphanage. Luckily father wasn't home to witness it. The loud screams and breaths coming from Lynette was abnormal, but saddening at the same time, the screams were filled with pain and guilt...pain and guilt of an older sibling failing at their one job.
"I...I-I'm so...s-so...so-sorry" Lynette managed to spit out through cries and hiccups as she leaned onto Lyney. Hands wrapping around him and gripping the back of his shirt, Lyney returned the hug and patted her head soothingly. He looked back at the door, still hearing Freminet's muffled cries through the doorway...only...it was louder than before.
He was sitting...maybe standing opposite the door. He sounded so close, his cries were full of desperation, he needed help. Lyney leaned his head against the door and closed his eyes to try and sleep, with the only noises flooding his ears being his twin's screaming and his baby brother's sobs.
It was the most painful night he had ever had to endure...
