ICPO Meeting
"There have been fifty-two deaths that we are aware of, and that's just in the past week," A man spoke and the rest of the room made mumbles of agreement.
"Not to mention, every single one of them involved a heart attack in some way," Another man across the room pointed out, unease was clear in his tone.
That unease was shared by most in the room, a thick uncertainty in the air.
"The deaths have all been criminals being held in prison or who were waiting for police for outstanding crimes." A woman spoke with a frown." I think it's safe to say that there are likely other criminals whose deaths are unaccounted for."
A silence filled the room for a moment before another person spoke up, their tone grim.
"If that is the case, then it's possible the death toll could be double what we have recorded," A man pointed out with a sigh.
A man walked into the room, making his way over to a seat before sitting down next to the younger man.
"Good morning, Chief." The younger of the two chirped cheerfully." They just started without you."
"That's fine, I had to take an urgent call from headquarters," The older man stated as he looked around while the people debated on what to do with the deaths.
The first man who had spoken decided to speak up once more, his voice firm.
"Those criminals were likely facing executions sooner or later, perhaps we shouldn't do anything," The man suggested and a woman glared at him from across the room.
"Why should it matter if it's a criminal or someone innocent?" The woman snapped, clearly appalled by the man's lack of empathy." Last time I checked, murder was still murder, regardless of who dies."
"Isn't it a bit early to consider these deaths as homicide?" A man questioned and the woman just sighed with frustration.
"If it isn't murder, then how did all of these people have heart attacks at the exact same time?" The woman demanded." That's not a coincidence, it's murder."
A moment of tense silence fell over the room before the man spoke up again.
"You think it's possible to simultaneously kill all of these people in different locations?" The man asked, his tone holding disbelief.
"Not exactly, we've been treating this as an elaborate murder plot that's being carried out by a large organization," A man spoke up, the words sending another wave of unease through the group.
If it is a large organization, then I'm sure I am not alone in suspecting the FBI or CIA," the first man stated, glaring across the room at the people in question.
This riled up the people representing the organization, they stood up and glared at the man.
"I dare you to say that again!" The CIA representative snarled, his hands slamming onto the table in front of him.
"Now, now, this is not the time to be joking around." A man chided, clearly frustrated by the lack of progress being made in the meeting." First things first, we need to confirm that these are indeed homicides and not just a coincidence."
"How?" The man who had insulted the CIA asked." The autopsy results show that in all these cases, the victims died of a sudden heart attack."
"Investigating a series of heart attacks is pointless, I don't see what else we can learn," The CIA representative stated, clearly still annoyed at the man who had insulted him.
