It's been a day since Peter left home. The Mustang jocks and cheerleaders are strolling down the corridor of Midtown High, rambling about yesterday's football practice. Oddly, Flash Thompson is quite less chatty than his friend, and was rather unfocused during football practice.
Rand: "Flash, dude, what's eatin' you? Dropped your last quarter in the vending machine?"
Flash: "It's Parker, man."
Glory: "Hold up, you actually miss Pete? Hmm, that's a new one."
Flash: "Huh?"
Rand: "Come on man, who are you and what've you done with our quarterback?"
Flash: "What?! No!"
Liz: "Flash, if this is about our breakup, you don't have to-"
Sally: "You're lettin' that wimpy little geek mess up your mojo? Wake up, Flashy. I've been on cloud nine since the day Parker left M-Cubed."
Flash: "No! I only ever missed that dweeb during target practice! I'm talkin' about this!"
Eugene exclaims as he pulls out today's Daily Bugle newspaper.
Sally: You still read the newspaper? What're you, 65?"
Flash: "No! I mean, yes. What? No! What I'm saying is, Puny Parker takes Spider-Man's picture for the Bugle, and his mug ain't plastered under the sports section."
Rand: "So, what seems to be the problem, fanboy?"
Flash: "The Web-Head's been MIA all morning, and it's driving me nuts. Dude's like the highlight of my day."
The silent 2nd string, Hobie Brown, attempts to chime in his own advice, but he's before able to speak his mind, Sally retorts, interrupting his opinion, as to be expected.
Sally: "Ugh, Flash, you knucklehead. When're you gonna stop obsessing over that wall-crawling weirdo? He probably doesn't even know you exist."
Flash: "That's not true, I saved his butt that one time, remember!?"
Kenny: "Oh yeah, you were the Spectacular Spider-Crutch! Ha ha ha ha ha!"
Flash: "Shut up, Kong! Ughhh, whatever, I'm outta here."
Eugene stomps away from the in-crowd, stewing like a bear with a sore head. Meanwhile, a disapproving Glory bumps her immature boyfriend on the shoulder.
Glory: "Grow up, Kenny."
Kenny: "Ow, babe. Am I not allowed to goof around?"
Sally: "Eh, go easy on him, Glory. It's not his fault Thompson's such a mood. He'll shake it off. Or worst case, he goes emo on us and starts wearing' eyeliner."
Rand: "I dunno. With Parker off campus, QB's well on his way to that lifestyle."
Flash: "Outta my way, Nerdette."
Gwen tries carrying her textbooks, only for Flash to elbow her, causing her to drop them on the floor.
Just then, Harry appears behind his hesitant girlfriend to lend a hand.
Harry: "Everything good, Gwen?"
Gwen: "Huh? Oh, y-yeah. I'm good."
Harry: "Don't worry about Flash; the jocks are jerks anyway. Come on, time for culinary. We're making Crème Brule with Pete's Aunt May, heh."
Gwen: (Sigh) "Ok."
The smiling Harry Osborn wraps his arm around his Gwen, walking away with a broad sense of pride, as a way to cope with his loss. While Gwen Stacy on the other hand, isn't very satisfied with her current boyfriend status, given how she's being guilt tripped into sustaining their relationship. As happy as she is for Peter, she misses his company, including Mary Jane's. Harry's too self-centered, and isn't very keen on listening to or being receptive of Gwen's issues, and Eddie Brock hasn't been around ESU for some time to open up to, (Not that she knows that wouldn't be safe or anything). For now, Gwen feels like The Flash's new punching bag, and only hopes Thompson's new girlfriend, Sha-Shan Nguyen, will keep the big guy in check long enough until Pete returns to Forest Hills. Better yet, at least until graduation.
Sorry for the delay, just a case of writers block. Needed to rewatch Spectacular Spider-Man for more inspiration. Believe me, I will finish what I started. Right now, I'm just taking it slow. Plus, I have a job to work and anime to watch.
