The story transitions to Collège Françoise Dupont, where the students, fresh from a much-deserved two weeks off, enter Miss Bustier's classroom and take their rightful seats, including Marinette and Alya. Nino Lahiffe self-assuredly walks into the classroom and greets the two girls.
Marinette: "Hey Nino."
Nino: "Sup' Marinette? Hey Alya."
Alya: "There's my man."
Nino and Alya do their patented Super Penguino Handshake, and Alya tops it off by kissing Nino on his cheek. Adrien is next to entering the classroom; his presence having Marinette captivated, as usual.
Marinette: (Sigh) "Adrien."
Alya waves her hand in Mari's face, seeing if she can snap Dupain-Cheng out of her trance. Just then, Chloe Bourgeois wraps her rich and privileged arms around Adrien's abdomen and squeezes him in an unbreakable hug, like a lovestruck boa constrictor.
Chloe: "There's my Adrikins! Oh, how my Spring Break was utterly miserable without you!"
While Chloe's clinginess makes Adrien uncomfortable, Marinette grows disgusted by her antics.
Adrien: "Chloe, we hung out two days ago, and we've talked about this; I'm only interested in us being friends."
Chloe: "I'm just hugging you; it's totally normal for friends to hug."
Miss Bustier: "Chloe, please take your seat."
After Chloe releases Adrien and reports to her seat, Miss Bustier greets her class and welcomes them to the final quarter of the school year.
Miss Bustier: "Good morning class. I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break. It seems that everyone is here today... Wait, oh. Has anyone seen our friend Lila today?"
Alix: "Lila won't be here the next few weeks."
Max: "She's currently traveling in Australia with Prince Ali to help raise awareness to save the koala population."
Rose: "Lila's so generous! I heard she got to hold an adorable baby koala. Koalas are so cuuute!"
Marinette rolls her eyes in disgust, recognizing this story as another one of Lila Rossi's lies, since Prince Ali is presently in London on world tour. Mari thinks of speaking up to refute this nonsense, but stays silent, seeing as how trying could potentially cost her her relationships with her friends.
Miss Bustier: "Anyway class, I have a special announcement. In about two weeks, our school will be holding our special annual Midnight in Paris Spring Dance."
The students clap as they look forward to attending. Mylène and Ivan affectionately cuddle each other, affirming that they'll definitely be going together.
Kim: "Nice, I can't wait to ask Ondine."
Marinette gets a little nudge on the shoulder from Alya, who inputs a friendly suggestion.
Alya: "You know, this dance would be a perfect opportunity to spend quality time with you-know-who."
Marinette: "Who?"
Alya darts her eyes toward the boy seated upfront, hinting that Mari should go to the prom with Adrien.
Marinette: "What?!"
Miss Buster: "Marinette? Is everything alright?"
Marinette looks at the class awkwardly as everyone stares at her, including Adrien. Marinette realizes that her exclamation was a bit louder than she expected.
Marinette: "Oh... uh, yes, I'm good. Heh heh. Sorry Miss Bustier."
Miss Bustier: "It's okay Marinette, just please remember to lower your voice."
After that minor embarrassment, Marinette nods to the teacher and picks up on her conversation with Alya, this time a bit quieter.
Marinette: (Whispering) "Are you crazy?! I can't go with Adrien to the Spring Dance."
Adrien: "Why not? You love Adrien, and you love dancing; it's a two in one package."
Marinette: "It is, but what if something terrible happens? Like what if I'm drinking fruit punch and I accidentally spill it all over his suit? The whole night would be a disaster and he'd never wanna dance with me again!"
Alya: "Or, what if you don't spill fruit punch on his suit and this "disaster" turns out to be the best night ever?"
Marinette: "Of course, all I have to do is stay home and not go to the dance, that way no one will be humiliated."
Alya: "Marinette, you can't let your fears prevent you from enjoying life and spending time with the boy you love. If you're really into Adrien, you should follow your heart and ask him to the prom."
Marinette: "But what if-?"
Alya: "Nope, not another word. As your BFF, I know when you're making excuses."
Marinette: "But Alyaaa-"
Alya: "Come on girl, if you ever want Adrien to fall for you, you've gotta work your way up. (Singsong voice) Plus, if you take him to the dance, he might wanna be your boyfriend. So whadya say?"
Acknowledging that Alya makes a good point, Marinette thinks it over and reluctantly accepts, wearing a smile on her face.
Marinette: "Ok, I'll do it."
Alya: "Great, cuz if you wanna go with him, you better ask him soon, otherwise Chloe might end up beating you to it."
Marinette: "Chloe, (Scoff) yeah right. Like that'll ever happen."
Alya: "I wouldn't be too sure."
Marinette and Alya turn their heads and see Adrien trapped in another constrictive hug. Chloe attempts to sweet-talk the heartthrob into going to prom with her.
Chloe: "So Adrikins, instead of these losers, you should go to the dance with me, the lovely Chloe Bourgeois, daughter of the Mayor of Paris."
Chloe shows Adrien a pair of baby doll-eyes and a kissy face, hoping to influence his decision with her "charm". Even from inside a bookcase, Plagg almost gags listening to her sappy talk.
Adrien: "I-I'll think about that, Chloe. I'd have to talk to my father first."
Chloe: "Wonderful, you know where to find me, Adrikins!"
Marinette grows slightly jealous, despite the slim chances of Adrien dancing with Chloe, the meanest chick at her school.
