y/n pov:
"I can't, I have a date tonight" I told my chief. "a date? that's your excuse for not doing a surgery" he said confused. "I know but it's my 3 year anniversary chief" I tried to make him more happy to let me go. "I can't just let you go for a date, you have a surgery Capshaw" he said. I sighed. "If I could let you go on this date I would" He told me as I walked away. "like hell you would" I said under my breath. I got out my phone to message my wife to disappoint her.

"hey love" I said into my phone. "hi gorgeous" she said happily. "I have bad news" I told her, I could feel her smile drop. "you can't come tonight can you?" she asked. "I have been assigned to a new surgery, last minute" I said sadly. "oh" she sighed. "it's only an appendectomy, so I will be 1 and a half hours tops" I told her. "okay" she said, trying to act happier. "i'm really sorry love" I said before hanging up.

I headed to the scrub room and began the appendectomy. An hour and 5 minutes later, I was finished hand quickly un scrubbed. I walked to my car and drove home, but got stuck in traffic. I checked google maps on my phone, and it was bumper to bumper all the way home. my phone is connected to the car so I called Jess through the car. "Jess, have you seen the traffic on main street?" I asked her. "yeah there has been a crash, your stuck in the traffic?" she asked. "it says i'll be stuck in this traffic for the next hour" I told her. "great" she mumbled. "I'm sorr-" I started but she spoke on the phone before I could. "your sorry, I get it"  I stopped talking not knowing what to say. "i'll see you when your home" she then hung up. I sighed, I just wish I could be home sooner.

It ended up taking 2 hours in surgery, so we missed our reservation. I pulled into the drive and went into our house. "babe?" I asked out, trying to find out what room she was in. "living room" she said, so I walked to the living room. she was sat in her pjs, with a glass of wine, watching dynasty. "hey love" I gave her a soft smile, she gave one back, but more of a sadder one. "hi" she said moving her blanket up so I could sit with her. I wrapped my arm around her and she put her head on my shoulder. we sat in a comfortable silence for a few minutes. "i'm sorry we missed our reservation" I told her. "it's okay babe, you have your job and sometimes it runs long, I was just a bit frustrated but, I do it too, when I stay to film later than I originally was going to, you know?" she smiled, taking her head of my shoulder and looking at me. "how was your day?" Jess asked. "I did a liver transplant on a 5 year old, at 2am" I told her. "hey I did a liver transplant too!" she laughed. "it's like tv surgeon vs surgeon" I laughed with her.

"i'm sorry we haven't had a very good anniversary" I sighed. "how about we put on Into The Woods, you poor yourself a glass of wine, and the pizza I ordered will be here in about 10 minutes, then we will have a great anniversary" she smiled. "sounds perfect" I said, then placed a kiss on her lips
