The Unwritten Rule

CHAPTER 2

On the other side, the king was boiling with rage. The anger clouded his judgment and logical thinking ability. In a rage, he made a decision that would affect the nobles for the rest of their life. He ordered his soldiers to search the entire country for intelligent people. The king took 6 months and formed a group of people who were intelligent and noteworthy. He tested the group of people through many tests and formed a group of 5 people. He made them take a vow to protect the kingdom at all costs. The king gave them all the powers. Now the group can punish any noble. The king gave them the power to go against the nobles, even the king, if their decision was wrong. The King named the group 'Yeolsoe', which means key.

After introducing the group, the first decision that the 'Yeolsoe' took was to banish the first prince from the kingdom. This decision not only shocked the entire Kingdom but also the king. One reason he formed this group was that he thought that maybe this group would help him find his son, who was nowhere to be found even after searching for months. But this decision was not what he expected. Even he is helpless now as he gave all the powers to 'Yeolsoe' and not even the king can call back the decision.

The most affected persons were the princess and the second prince. Princess blamed herself for helping her brother escape, while the second prince was furious and hateful towards the situation. The princess went to Yeolsoe and clarified that her brother was alone, terrified, and exhausted. She promised to find him and bring him back. She begged them to cancel their order. But Yeolsoe was against this idea, "What do you think princess, if you bring back your brother everyone will accept him as the king? Who ran away because he was frightened and tired? No one should run away from their duty. He was a noble who ran away from his responsibilities and now he must bear the consequences." One of the Yeolsoe's spoke. No words came out of the princess even though what the person said was right, but the prince was very young when he ran away. He does not deserve this. This was all because of her father. If their father didn't treat them like princes and princesses and instead talked to them with love as sons and daughters, this wouldn't have happened. On the other side, the prince's desire to become the King grew stronger. He wanted to discard the Yeolsoe.

Because of this decision, the king lost all hope of seeing his first son. The king loves his family but never knows how to express them. He thought his actions would speak louder than words, so he always showed his care by making sure all the servants, and doctors, were around them. But not every time actions would speak, words are important, telling that he loved them and that he was proud of them would have changed a lot. Slowly, the princess and the second prince stopped talking, meeting and even looking at the king. This was killing the king from the inside.

Soon enough, the princess got married at 21 to a prince of their neighbor's kingdom. The prince was now left alone in the entire palace. He felt as if he was the only person in this world. The king's health started declining and soon left the world making 'Jeon Ji Ho' the next king at 19.

Ji Ho was happy that finally, he could bring his brother back, but not before discarding the ' Yeolsoe'. King Ji Ho immediately called the ' Yeolsoe,' and told them that there was no need for them and he, the king, was going to discard them. "Your majesty, we are sorry for your loss and we wish you and the kingdom a bright future ahead. But your Majesty discarding the group is unfortunately not in your hands." One of the Yeolsoe said. The King was confused and angry. "What do you mean?! How dare you disobey me, the king?! Do you know the consequences of defying the king?" The group bowed down before the king after he let out a roar. "We apologise, your majesty. We didn't mean to offend you or disobey you. The late king has passed his last wish, and that was to keep this group, Yeolsoe, as long as the kingdom stays for the sake of the kingdom's safety." One of the Yeolsoes told and showed the scroll in which they stated it the same, and at the bottom, there was a stamp used by the late king. (Additional information: Every King has a unique stamp and is destroyed when the king is no more.)

The king who has the scroll, his hands were trembling with anger. 'How much more do we have to suffer because of you, Father?' The king thought to himself. "All of you, get out." The king said in a low voice.

The news of not being able to discard the Yeolsoe reached Princess Ara, who was now the Queen of 'Floren' Kingdom. The Queen couldn't visit her brother because of issues in her kingdom. Her responsibilities prevented her from being with him during his tough time.

Ji Ho understood the reality and accepted it. As a king, he should not keep drowning and should think about his people. Irrespective of how Ji Ho felt, he was a great King. He took all the responsibilities and never failed to fulfil his duties.

One day, there was a sudden outbreak of an unknown disease that started killing the people of the kingdom. The doctors could not detect the virus and could not find a cure. King was really getting impatient and worried looking at his people suffer. The king sent notice to all the kingdoms in search of a cure.

The kingdom of 'Glory', well-known for its array of medicinal herbs, expressed their willingness to lend a hand. Upon the arrival of the members from the kingdom of 'Glory', King Ji Ho of 'Nemon' took responsibility for their well-being and ensured their comfort. The members of 'Glory' were all commoners who knew most about medicines. The king provided them with a guest house which was near his palace, but the members declined. They wanted to stay near the village so that they could observe each individual and find the cure as fast as possible. The members took care of each member of the village. They soon found a cure for the disease and started treating the people.

Among the members who came from 'Glory' a girl named 'Ae Cha' got the attention of Ji Ho. Her beautiful yet small eyes, which shined brightly, and a cute little nose with a broad smile, attracted the king. The king always went to the village to observe the process and Ae Cha. Within a few months, the disease was nowhere to be found, and it was time for the members to return to their own kingdom. Even though the king was happy that his people were all cured and happy, he felt sad thinking about how Ae Cha had to return to her kingdom. The king couldn't contain himself and went to meet Ae Cha. He expressed his feelings and was glad when he found out that Ae Cha felt the same. The king and Ae Cha stayed in contact through letters and secret meetings even after Ae Cha went back home. They both were happy and content with their lives, but fate had other plans. The Yeolsoe found out about the king's love and was against the idea of the king marrying a commoner. They kept quiet and were waiting for an opportunity.

The king of the kingdom 'Glory' sent a letter to King Ji Ho stating that he wanted to set an alliance with them through marriage. King Ji Ho wanted to decline the offer, but Yeolsoe had other plans. "Your majesty. It's a great opportunity to expand our kingdom. If we decline this offer, we might have to face a war. Even though we have the strongest army, we might lose a lot as our people have just recovered from the disease. Please think about our kingdom's people." One of Yeolsoe told the king. The king became helpless. He can't go against the Yeolsoe and he was not ready to risk his people's life for his selfish reasons. So, King Ji Ho agreed to marry Park Chae Won, the only daughter of King 'Glory'. King Jeon Ji Ho married Chae Won at 22. 

While writing this chapter, I wanted to smash the Yeolsoe very badly 🙄😒.
