CHAPTER SIX

Denver laid on the cold, concrete floor. She opened her eyes and sat up as much as she could when she heard the basement door creak open. It was light out now. The sunshine came through the tiny windows and cast a beam of light across the floor to her left. The footsteps coming down the stairs were swift, like running. Her captor emerged from behind the wall, holding what looked like a tarp. Denver inhaled sharply as he approached her.
He shackled her ankles together, and stared to free her arms. "Do. Not. Move." He stated, as he releases her arms completely. He grabbed her bicep and stood her up. She hadn't stood in what must have been 24 hours, and from being in that position, her legs almost gave out as she tried to steady herself on her feet. "This way." He ushered her far too fast for the small steps she could take with the shackles. He brought her to a small closet under the stairs. Shoving her to the ground, he adjusted her dress, covering her breasts once more. She felt a sense of relief for a moment. The man took one of her wrists and attached it to a rope that was suspended from the ceiling. It only gave her enough room to move a few feet, and not nearly enough to make it out of the door. He unshackled her ankles, leaving small cuts on the tops of her feet from the metal. He stared at her and for the first time, she saw his face. Henry Finnegan. She knew him. They went to middle and high school together before he was expelled for trying to seduce a teacher. At least that was the rumor. What does he want from me?

Henry stood up after securing Denver to the chains hanging from the ceiling. "Don't move a muscle. Do not make a sound." He said gruffly, his knees mere inches from her face. She stared up at him. "Yes, sir" she said quiet as mouse. "Good girl." He turned and left, closing the door behind him. It wasn't locked, but she couldn't go anywhere even if she tried to open it.

How will I ever get out of here?
