By the end of the day, it seemed the word had spread that I was just a family friend to Haerin. She shrugged it off whenever I looked at her, but whoever had started this rumor had managed to put an end to the curious glances we'd been receiving. No one seemed intrigued anymore, and while it was a relief for me, I could tell it secretly made Haerin nervous. She might try to hide it, both in her behavior and her thoughts, but I saw right through her.

We sat in the car, music playing softly in the background. The plan was to drop her off at home after she picked up her stuff. We didn't want to raise any suspicion from her family. As we pulled up at her apartment complex, I noticed her occasionally smoothing out her dress. I hadn't mentioned earlier, but it was quite short. I wasn't a controlling girlfriend, but I found myself stealing glances at her legs, a mix of possessiveness and fascination.

In the elevator, Haerin was engrossed in texting on her phone. She suddenly broke into a smile, showing me her phone right away. I couldn't help but be curious about who she was talking to. As I read the texts, I realized they weren't funny at all. Alex had told everyone about me being a family friend, but there was a slight edge to it, as if she were trying to turn it into a scandal of some sort. I knew she was bad news; that's why I didn't particularly like her. I'd been like that in my younger years, more out of curiosity. I had uncovered various things I wasn't meant to know, but I had never shared them, no matter how dark they were. I preferred to keep things in order, which was perhaps why my love for numbers had transpired.

We stepped out of the elevator, and I unlocked the door. I ignored the gazes I felt on my hands as I opened the door. Haerin seemed shameless in our new relationship, her eyes devouring every inch of me, almost... but not yet.

We stepped inside, and I whispered in Haerin's ear, "Get your things, please." Then, I went to the kitchen, where the sound of running water filled the space as I cleaned my hands. I had removed my rings beforehand, and now I dried my hands, turning around.

I flinched in surprise. Haerin was stealthy, I'd give her that. She was already standing there with a bag from some store logo and her varsity jacket in the other hand. I smiled, stalking toward her. I cupped her face and kissed her passionately, the sound of the paper bag hitting the floor and her hands finding my waist.

I tilted my head, kissing her even deeper. I didn't want her to leave so soon.

I cradled her face, bending down as I kissed her again. She breathed through her nose, tickling my cheeks. She was so soft, and I let my hand glide down to grasp the back of her neck. I stopped, pulling away slightly, taking a deep breath. Her eyes seemed lost in thought.

Suddenly, she took my hand away from her neck and gently pulled away from our kiss. I grasped her waist again, looking down at her. She frowned, and in a barely audible voice, she said, "I don't want to go."

There was a moment of silence. "Look at me," I said gently, trying to find her eyes. "You'll see me again, okay? For another month, during the summer..." I trailed off, hoping to reassure her.

She let out a small sigh. "Okay, but what about after that?" She mumbled, pouting slightly. I chuckled, not liking to see her worried. "What's bothering you?" I asked. "What happens after I graduate?" She said.

"Whatever you want," I replied sincerely. She blinked, looking surprised. "Really?" She said, seeking confirmation.

I smiled warmly. "Yes, what did you expect?" I said, amused by her reaction. She bowed her head, feeling a bit embarrassed. "I don't know, I was just worried. It's dumb," she admitted.

I chuckled softly, understanding the rollercoaster of emotions that come with being a teenager. "Don't worry about it then. Focus on now, here, me, and you," I said, trying to reassure her. I leaned in and kissed her gently, and she took a deep breath, letting herself be in the moment.
