"Haerin, come back! I need to fix your hair!" Danielle called out, nearly stumbling over the Luna, who was lazily lounging in the hallway, bow tie around the golden fur around her neck. It was my wedding day, and after a long two years of engagement, I was about to marry Kim Minji. I kept checking the invitation list for the umpteenth time, my anxiety making me second-guess every detail."Haerin, everyone who was invited is coming, okay? Let's just calm down and finish your hair," Danielle said, her voice steady but kind. I sighed and sank back into the chair in front of the mirror as she carefully adjusted my hair, her fingers expertly placing pins.
"I'm so nervous," I admitted, my fingers fidgeting despite my best efforts.
"I know, sweetheart. Stop picking at your fingers or you'll make them bleed," Danielle gently reminded me. I clenched my hands into fists, trying to keep them still.
"All done," Danielle said, her hands coming to rest on my shoulders. She leaned in and placed her chin on top of my head. "You look beautiful."
"Thank you," I said, managing a small smile. "I feel... normal."
Danielle's eyes widened in mock horror. "Normal? We can't have that!" she joked, a soft laugh escaping her.
She gets up and looks at the both of us in the light up mirror, her eyes full of happiness, just like always.
"Haerin?" she said, her voice soft yet commanding. I looked at her, puzzled, but she only smiled. She brought the hair scissors up to a small lock of her silky hair. My eyes widened in disbelief as she snipped it off and held it out to me.
"I know you've been wanting it for a while," she said, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
I took the lock of hair from her, feeling the softness and silkiness between my fingers. The sensation was almost surreal. I looked up at her, unable to contain the wide grin spreading across my face.
"I'll leave you to it. Behave for Minji, okay? I'll see you in the audience. Love you." She pressed a quick kiss to the top of my head before heading out, leaving me with a sense of calm in her wake.
I took a deep breath, trying to center myself as I stared at my reflection. The room was filled with the soft rustle of fabric and the muted chatter of the wedding party outside. It was surreal to think that this day had finally arrived, and I was about to marry the woman who had been my rock, my confidante, and my love.
As I adjusted the delicate lace of my veil, my mind wandered to Minji. The thought of her waiting for me at the altar made my heart race. I could already imagine her smile, the way her eyes crinkled at the corners when she was genuinely happy. Despite my nerves, I felt a sense of deep contentment knowing that Minji was the person I would be spending the rest of my life with.
The sound of Danielle's footsteps fading away left me with a moment of quiet. I closed my eyes and tried to steady my breathing, finding comfort in the familiar surroundings of the bridal suite. The soft hum of a nearby air conditioner was the only noise breaking the silence, offering a soothing backdrop to my thoughts.
A soft knock on the door pulled me from my reverie. It was the woman I paid to arrange this, Rachel, peeking in with a warm smile. "Ready for the big moment?" she asked, her eyes twinkling with excitement.
"Always," I replied, trying to match her enthusiasm.
Rachel stepped into the room, her presence immediately bringing a sense of calm. She took a seat next to me and held my hand, offering a reassuring squeeze. "You're going to be amazing. Minji is going to be blown away."
"Maybe" I said, my voice tinged with a mix of anxiety and anticipation. "I just want everything to be perfect."
"It will be," Rachel said firmly. "Because it's your day, and it's going to be full of love and joy. Now, let's get you to the ceremony."
