The auction is tomorrow. That means I only have eight hours before I fly Mi Zorro out of the country. I am not going to risk her with this auction that smells fishy. Something bad is bound to happen, says my gut. And I'll burn the world before I let anybody touch her.
In addition to that, she is injured. She might fake it in front of me that she's fine but early this morning I noticed her wince when she lifted her hands to show me how well she recovered. Well, even if she did recover I wouldn't have her go out into the field so soon. At least not this auction that screams trouble from every corner.
I need to convince her to fly out or I am feeding her sleeping pills. She will sleep for her entire flight and wake up directly in Madrid. My father is there and he knows Olivia is coming. Apart from his curious ass to meet his late best friend's daughter, he is excited to show Olivia the maternal side of my upbringing. My mother being a sassy Latina paired with my cool, calm and reserved Dad is a pair that proves opposites attract. I'd love to have her meet them. This way I get to kill two birds with one stone. My parents could finally meet my wife and Olivia gets an out from the auction.
I wait in the study room with my plan, impatiently looking at the door to open and have my wife come in. I took a quick scan of the guest list that Klaus sent me. After talking to him last night and persuading him to keep our business secret from Olivia, I found myself ready for the game.
He is a brilliant hacker who knows the inches and corners of computers. In less than six hours he gave me all the blueprints, lists of buyers, illegal tape recordings from Omar's office, and CCTV footage that helped me prepare a plan. If everything goes right, the minute Olivia leaves for the airport, I'll have my men track Garfield Funker, another member of the board that Benedict sent to keep his eyes and the very target of Olivia for her revenge.
She doesn't know he will play eyes for Benedict and monitor Omar's moves. But I know him. If Garfield is on the field then someone will definitely die. The cunning bastard will make his moves if Omar fails to follow Benedict's orders. And I can't let it happen. Not until I buy the resort.
I save the file and exit the folder when the doorknob turns and Mi Zorro enters. Fresh and happy. Good, the breakfast worked. I knew the key to a happy mood for a woman like my wife is food.
She makes her way to me with a smile I rarely see on her face, "Hey Husband," she says, and my heart somersaults. God, I love it when she calls me that.
"Come here," I forward my hand. She takes it and joins me behind the desk. Casually, I wrap my arms around her waist and show her the flight tickets. "Next week is my abuela's death anniversary. It's always my Dad, Mom, abuelo, Maria, and me paying our respects but this time I want to take you with me. Every year I battled the thought to bring you but couldn't because of the reasons you're well aware of. I don't need to voice it out."
It was true. We both know the reasons why she hasn't met my family yet. My father is the only one who knows Olivia but my Mom and Abuelo don't. I want to make this marriage as real as I can. Doesn't matter we had a rocky start. Things now are starting to pick up and what's a marriage if you hadn't met the elderlies of the family?
Olivia runs her fingers on my hair in a comforting way and I groan inwardly, "I didn't think my first task as your wife would be this," she says in a sad voice, "but I am happy you thought of bringing me to meet your abuela. I'd like to thank her for giving me eye candy. It's hard to find good-looking men these days.,"
I raise my head, "Eye candy and good looking. Wow, I didn't know you could compliment me,"
"Don't flatter yourself,"
She slips out of my embrace and takes a good look at the tickets. "Does it mean I'll get to meet your parents?"
"Yep," I say tight-lipped. Aside from my mother who she hasn't met once in her life, I don't know if she remembers my father or the fact that our fathers were best friends once upon a time. I want to tell her but there's so much she still doesn't know. Starting with the fact, that my father was the one who approached me with the marriage offer.
When he came back after his service in Afghanistan six years back, he found out what happened with his best friend's family. David Myers and his wife Sofia Myers both passed away. Although his wife remarried for the sake of her kids a couple years later after David's death, the second husband wasn't much of a person he showed to be in the eyes of everyone.
After an inside investigation, my father found out the reality of Sofia Myers's marriage to Benedict. The manipulative jerk hadn't left many traces of his actions but my dad managed to find out bits and pieces about him and his actions towards Olivia and the Myers Estate.
My father then came up with a plan to save his friend's legacy and keep his promise to protect his family that they made in the event of their younger days. He wasn't there to save Sofia, but he will save Olivia and Klaus from the hands of Benedict and help rebuild the Myers estate that Benedict so cruelly wrecked for his gains.
My father and Oliva met once or twice when she was a kid about three years because I was around six or seven at that time and I would see him show pictures of a brunette kid to my mom.
Anyway, now that the opportunity is here I want both of them to meet each other. I told Dad that I was bringing Olivia home and he hadn't shut up since. Running around places, making sure the house is neat, courses are prepared, and curtains are changed. It's a whole mess but I like seeing him involved so much with the chores to make sure Olivia likes everything.
"Gosh, I haven't met someone parent's before. Sure, Mara and I used to do sleepovers where I met her mother twice and her father once. But they were always too busy to pay attention to us. Not that they weren't sweet or welcoming. But a partner's parents? I don't know" Olivia paces around the room.
I watch her quietly.
"What if your Dad finds out about us? Like we're married in secret but we're not in public because of some high fashion secret you're keeping which by the way you have to tell me one of these days," She looks at me, "What am I even supposed to do? Act like your wife when I have never? I don't have practice, what do I say? I am...Olivia Hill? Wow, that sounds like a farmland where olives grow."
I laugh. "You're thinking way too much about it. If it helps you, my father knows about the contract."
"He does?"
I shrug my shoulder, "Yes,"
Before I can say further on the topic my phone vibrates on the table catching my attention. Olivia and I both looked at my ringing phone that had Roco's name as the incoming caller.
"Let me get this," I tell her.
She nods and faces the window in the room.
"Speak," I say the minute I connect the call.
"Boss,"
I instantly stiffen at his tone. From the corner, I kept a watch on Mi Zorro making sure she wasn't focused on me as I tended to Roco or whatever bad news was awaiting.
