Aesira expertly maneuvered the car into the parking spot, bringing it to a smooth stop. The engine's hum faded as she switched it off, and I eagerly anticipated my exit.

I opened the car door and stepped out, the cool evening air hitting me in stark contrast to the enclosed space of the vehicle. Aesira followed suit, closing her door with a soft thud.

As we approached the entrance, Aesira turned towards me with a warm smile, her eyes reflecting the subtle twinkle of amusement within them.

"Do you want a sandwich?" she asked, her voice as melodious as ever.

I hesitated for a moment, genuinely surprised by her offer. "Um, yeah, sure," I replied, my curiosity piqued.

Aesira giggled softly before heading into the cozy kitchen, and I trailed behind her, my feet feeling somewhat uncertain. Inside, she began retrieving ingredients from the neatly organized shelves and fridge.

"Cheese and tomato salad, alright?" she asked, her gaze fixed on me with an inquisitive yet gentle expression.

I nodded, attempting to regain my composure. "Hmm, yes."

A playful grin tugged at her lips. "Don't look so surprised; I'm only offering you a sandwich, nothing more," she teased, shaking her head.

Chuckling, I took a seat at the kitchen island, genuinely wanting to help but knowing better than to disturb her when she was in the midst of sandwich preparation. Over the years, I had learned that Aesira had a particular way of crafting sandwiches, as though it were a form of art. I'd often found it quirky, but I'd never mentioned it to her.

It took longer than expected for her to assemble the sandwich, a full ten minutes passing before she slid a plate towards me. I couldn't help but smirk.

"Thank you, Miss perfectionist," I quipped.

She rolled her eyes playfully. "Shut up and eat your sandwich," she said with a soft giggle.

For the moment, we were playing nice, an unspoken agreement to avoid stirring up any unnecessary drama. We both knew this harmony was temporary; tomorrow morning would likely reset everything to its usual state.

I waited until she had prepared her own sandwich and joined me at the island before I spoke up.

"I took photos," I admitted, a hint of nostalgia in my voice, "of the den and the tree."

Aesira's curiosity was piqued. "You did? Why?" she asked, a touch of uncertainty in her voice.

I nodded, retrieving my phone and unlocking it to access the photos. I slid it over to her, and she picked it up, her fingers deftly navigating through the images. I watched as a small, genuine smile graced her lips, as if she were momentarily lost in the fond memories we had created.

"I can't believe it's mostly still standing," she remarked, her voice tinged with nostalgia.

"I know," I replied, equally surprised. Aesira sighed softly and returned my phone to me, her gaze turning away as she focused on her sandwich. An unspoken awkwardness descended upon us once more.

"I'm going to head to my room. Goodnight, Jungkook," Aesira said, breaking the silence. She collected her plate and a bottle of water before making her exit.

"Night, Aes," I called after her, a rare nickname I hadn't used in years. It had always been reserved for me alone, and I couldn't help but shake my head as I contemplated it. My appetite had vanished, so I disposed of the remnants of my sandwich in the trash can and retreated to my room.

Passing by Aesira's room, I felt a fleeting temptation to knock on her door, but I thought better of it. Instead, I entered my room, closing the door behind me. The sound of the latch clicking into place was strangely comforting.

As I undressed and settled into my bed, I found myself reaching for my phone, navigating to a locked folder that contained a trove of precious photos featuring Aesira and me.

I had tried countless times to delete them, but they remained, a testament to the past I couldn't let go of.

Frustration welled up within me.

"What the hell is wrong with me tonight?" I muttered to myself. I tossed my phone aside, realizing that revisiting those memories had triggered this emotional turmoil.

Determined to banish the past from my thoughts, I focused on better uses of my time. Tomorrow was a new day, and I vowed to make sure it bore no resemblance to today's tumultuous emotions.
