Nyla's POV:

I park my truck along the street of Amelia's new apartment complex and she's right it's fifteen minutes from the Bureau, close to where sister works and to where she works. And as an added bonus it's not far from me either, not that it matters but it's good to know. "I hope you girls are okay with me wearing what I wore to work?" I look down at my attire and it doesn't really scream friendly dinner but I didn't have any clothes in the truck so I'm stuck in this.

I watch Amelia look over me and she gives me another sweet smile, "You look great and I think the tie works nicely." She motions the tie and I let myself chuckle a little. I can't lie and say that I'm not happy that she invited me over for dinner, I'm kind of ecstatic about it maybe even nervous, I want to impress the people she's close to. I know Aurora but not on a friendship level and now I'm meeting her sister-in-law too.

"Here can you this in the glove box please." I hand her my badge and she puts inside but at the same time a folder falls out and I instantly know what it is. "Are these sketches?" She asks picking up the images and looking at them. I was going to show them another time, a time that wasn't now. "Yeah, they're criminal sketches. We went around and asked some of the escorts if they recently seen anyone who looks suspicious or was acting suspicious come into their establishments. And that's what we got." I explain glancing over the console.

"That looks Josiah's brother this guy also came into the Lousy Lounge that day that Aurora and I bumped into you at the coffee shop." She pulls out two different sketches. "Have you seen any of them recently?" I ask her and she shakes her head. "Josiah's brother never really liked me, I mean he'd ogle at me every now and again but he didn't exactly take a liking the first time we met and other guys just drank at the bar. That's all. I know some of the girls didn't like him because he was being weird but when I got back he left so I don't know." She tells me and I take them out of her hands.

"Thank you, I'll go over these guys again. But let's stop talking about this I'm sure your sister and sister-in-law probably won't be too happy that we're still here." I put the file under my seat sharing a smile with her and she smiles back. God I love that smile. "You're right and knowing Mariah, the food is already made and she gets angsty when it gets cold and hasn't been eaten." She says about to open her door but I stop her.

I quickly get out of my side and I rush around the truck opening the door for her. "Amelia." I hold out my hand and she takes it climbing out of the truck, she squeezes my hand and I squeeze hers back, "Why thank you, yeah the tie is nice touch." She smirks letting go of my hand and giving my tie a few tugs before closing the door.

I take a deep breath in suddenly feeling hot, that tie pull did something to me, it was hot. But this is not the time. I shake myself of my thoughts and mention some of her boxes in the bed of my truck but she insists that we can leave them. She opens the door to her now new apartment and I get hit with a sweet smell of fruit. "Woah." I sound getting a laugh out of Amelia, "Yeah that's how good my sister-in-law is, you're going to love her and she's going to love you too." She holds me by the hand and leads me in.

"We're here!" She announces and I see two women pop around from the kitchen, Amelia lets go of me and the three of them hug. It must be nice having sisters that you're close too. "Okay okay you can let me go and Aurora you know but Mariah this is Agent Whitlock." She introduces me and the woman in a leather jacket and sweatpants I can't lie she makes the combo work really well. I reach out my hand and she takes it with a wide smile.

"Hey Agent, it's a pleasure I'm glad you could make it tonight." She gives me a firm shake and I give one back before letting go. "Please Agent isn't necessary, you can call me Nyla and it's nice to see you again Aurora also it's no problem I'm grateful to be invited. " I glance at Amelia with a smile and I see her cheeks turn pink. "And it smells amazing in here as well." I make an audible sniffing sound getting more of that sweet smell.

"Oh yes that's my famous berry crumble, and dinner is ready nothing much just some sweet pork barbocoa nachos, along with soft shell tacos, Aurora made margaritas and for desert my crumble." Mariah turns around going towards the kitchen then Aurora hands me a large margarita, my eyes widen at it, I don't think I've ever drunk this much in one go, maybe even my whole life. I'm not the biggest drinker I'll have a few beers a few shots but this is huge.

"You don't have to drink all of it, it's okay." Aurora chuckles taking a sip of her own then gives one to Amelia. "Aurora usually makes enough for a whole party." Amelia holds her her glass to her nose then takes a sip and I do the same. "Come on I'll show you around." She takes my hand again and I give it a squeeze following her. I could actually use this drink, liquid courage if you will. We walk around the place and she tells me where her things will go, what she puts on the walls.

"I can tell you're pretty excited about this." I mumble looking out of her main bedroom window, I hope she invests in good curtains. "Oh yeah absolutely, living with Josiah was not always fun. Sometimes I'd come back to our place being a pig sty and so some things I got either broke or got ruined somehow so now with my own space I know my things are safe you know." She explains sitting on her bed and I take the space next to her.

"He really wasn't good to you was he?" Oh this is the alcohol talking I think, I can't be buzzed already can I? "Yeah I wish I saw it sooner, but better late then never right. I'm just happy to be out, I mean I feel happier already being able to be around my siblings and my nieces and nephews has helped a lot. Even with you, life became better. I know it's not perfect, my friend died, and obviously like my parents they aren't going to accept what I do as a job but right now everything is great." I feel her head fall onto my shoulder and I stay still.

"Even me?" I question, "Yeah even you. I know it's probably weird but I really do like being around you, and you know it's jus-" "Hey foods ready and so is the movie come on!" We both eye the door from the interruption and I no longer feels Amelia's head on my shoulder. It would be weird to say I miss the feeling but I do. "I thought you're showing her around not sitting?" Aurora pops into the room and we both stand up, "She did she did, it's a great place can't wait to see it all decorated and stuff." I shut myself up by taking a big gulp of my drink.

I gotta go to work tomorrow I can not be drinking like this but I can't be feeling tense around them either, not when she was going to confess something, Amelia walks ahead of me and I follow but as I do I get hit by the past memory, the reoccurring horror dream. Fuck me. Maybe I can just call off tomorrow, just so I can finish this drink. "And dinner is served ladies!" Mariah fixes a couple platters on the small coffee table and each of them take a place on the couch.

"Come on Nyla, don't be shy. You're family now so sit, sit." Mariah tells me and I see Aurora nod pointing to the space at the end of the couch beside Amelia, I take my spot and I look at the TV seeing a movie begin and right from the start I know I haven't seen it before. "What's this?" I ask and they all collectively gasp, "What?" I question and they all look at each other.

"You're kidding right?" Aurora asks but I just stare. "You haven't seen Ocean's 8?" Mariah asks and I shake my head, "I've heard of it." I let out, I think I offended them. "I never really watched movies as kid and I didn't really pick up on it as I got older I guess." I try to explain myself. "Don't worry about it, you're going to love it." Amelia places her hand on my forearm and I give her smile. "So what did you do as a kid?" Mariah asks and I shrug.

I don't remember the last time I talked about my childhood, it wasn't bad at least to me it wasn't but most of it wasn't memorable. "Uh I don't really remember it, my parents didn't have the money to do much you know so things to fill the day were limited but I walked around. A lot." I say quietly and suddenly I feel like wrecked the mood. But then they all got up and they wrap themselves around me. Oh this is a big hug, it feels nice.

"Oh Nyla, I'm sorry if we brought up something that you didn't want but seriously I understand. My family was the same." I hear Mariah say, "My childhood sucked too, little siblings, sometimes no money to put food on the table, working at fifteen it's not fun." They finally let go and settle themselves. "We found our way through though." I said clearing my throat and she gives me a solid nod. "You know it! Cheers to that! See you are family now, you got us gals and Amelia." We clink our drinks.

But I keep looking at her confused why 'gals' and 'Amelia' are separated in that sentence. She gives me a look that I can't explain then I glance at Amelia and her cheeks turn pink again and I feel my own heat up. It's either this alcohol is telling me something, or I'm getting tipsy. Jesus Aurora what did you put in this.
