Benny and I just hung out in the dug out for the rest of the day, until the guys showed up.
I raised my eyebrow and sighed. "Look who decided to show up," I murmured, standing up.
We walked towards the guys, Benny telling me to not make them feel bad. I wanted to tell them off so badly, but, I realized- what did they even do?
I knocked the thought from my head as we reached the guys. We all just stared at each other for a few minutes, before I cleared my throat. "Hey guys," I said.
"Hey," they said awkwardly.
"So," Benny started, "anyone up for a quick game?" The guys all looked at each other and nodded. We based up, and right before we were about to start, Phillips and his gang rolled in.
"Aw, I just lost my appetite," Ham groaned loudly.
"I don't blame you," I said back sharply, staring at Phillips with a cold stare.
They just threw their bikes down and walked toward us. I realized he'd gathered more guys, equivalent to how many we had.
"Look, Phillips, there's not gonna be a rematch, so-" Benny got cut off by Phillips punching him square in the face.
All the guys started yelling and running at Phillips' posse.
I was about to throw a punch at a guy, when someone tackled me with so much force, I might have blacked out for a moment. I hit the ground hard, hot pain shooting down my back.
I winced in pain, then was greeted with a punch to the face, blood immediately trickling from my nose.
Phillips' guys immediately retreated as sirens came into earshot.
As the cops chased them off and asked if we were okay, I slowly got up, my back hurting greatly. I limped to where everyone was, and realized I was the one that was beat up the worst.
They were all staring at me. "I'm fine, guys," I said, wiping the blood from my nose.
"I think we should call it a night," Squints said, and we all agreed.
Benny and I walked back together in silence, my eyes heavy and glued to the ground as we walked. The only word we said to each other was "Night" when we reached our houses.
My aunt was out with friends that night, so I just cleaned up and went to bed. As I entered my room, my window was open. I walked over to it to close the curtains, when I saw Benny staring at his wall. I furrowed my eyebrows and opened my window.
His window was open, so I just said, "Benny."
He looked at me and faintly smiled.
"Whats wrong?" I asked as he moved closer to his window.
"Nothing.. I was just thinking," he said lowly.
I just nodded and closed my window, shutting my curtains after, and turning my lights off.
I climbed into bed and slowly drifted off to sleep, hoping we could play a decent game the next day.
