Coming to terms with his sexuality, Theodore Moore is a seventeen year old who is just about getting by. He makes minimum wage and has aspiring, out-of-reach dreams to become a lawyer.
Violent and aggressive, Antony Barbosa is everything wrong with...
I went straight home that morning. I had to shower and get ready for college, so I quickly washed up and changed into one of Tom’s old hoodies and grey joggers. I slip my coat over it and wrap a scarf around my neck before picking up the backpack that I use for college and leave the house.
Tom drove me to college that day, and Fernanda was waiting in the carpark, waving at me with a grin across her face. Her face significantly drops when she sees Thomas waving at her. I rolled my eyes as I exited his car, making sure to slam his door.
“Fuck you.” He snides, glaring at me and showing me his middle finger before he drives away, making sure to wink at my best friend as he leaves. I huff, turning to Fernanda just as she grimaces, running her fingers through her long, dark hair.
“Sorry about him.” I murmur as we walk in together. “Again.” I laugh, and Fernanda shakes it off.
“I’m used to it now.” She shrugged her shoulders. “I mean, not only from your wanker of a brother, but also from the many other guys that chat to me on a basis.” She says, and my eyebrows furrow.
“God, I wish men paid that much attention to me.” I sighed, and Fernanda cackled from beside me, her hand on my elbow.
“If you opened your eyes, you’d see how much attention you do get.” She tells me, and my mouth drops open in shock. “Unless, you know, you’re too consumed by this random bloke that seems to have you dick-whipped.” She laughs, and I slowly shake my head.
“I’m not… dick-whipped.” I sighed, rubbing my hands over my face. “I mean, we haven’t even…” I shrugged my shoulders.
“You haven’t shagged?” Fernanda exclaims, and I feel a small blush creeping up the side of my neck. She gasps in shock. “Oh my God, is it inexperience? If so, you should just watch some gay porn, and they’ll-” She speaks, and I quickly cover her mouth with my hand.
“You’re being very loud, Nanda.” I grit between my teeth, and she looks up at me apologetically. “Let’s go to class.” I sighed, wanting this conversation to be over more than anything. Fernanda nods her head and I slowly move my hand away from her mouth. She grins up at me.

"Mum? Are you home?" I yell, closing the front door behind me as I throw my backpack onto the couch and shrug off my coat. I see her stick out her head from the kitchen, a grin on her face.
“I’m in here.” She says, and I walk over, pressing a quick kiss to her forehead before making myself a piece of toast. “I just came home for a quick snack before I went back to work.” She rolled her eyes, and I grinned at her, leaning on the counter. She tilts her head at me, her eyebrows furrowing. “I can’t believe you didn’t tell me.”
I frowned. “Tell you what?”
“That you’re gay.” She states, and I clear my throat, crossing my arms over my chest.
“Oh. Dad told you.” I said softly, and she nodded her head, sucking on her bottom lip. “Well, I was going to tell you…” I start, but my words slowly fade out.
“I’m not mad at you, baby.” She laughs, crossing her arms over her chest as she leans on the door of the fridge. “It’s not much of a surprise, really. Just know that I’m always here and I’ll always support you.” She shrugs her shoulders, and I send her a small smile.
“Thanks, mum.” I nod my head.
“Hmm.” She moves away from the fridge, picking up her coat that was draped across the back of a chair. “Oh- and, we should invite Fernanda and her family over for dinner.” She says, and I stand straighter, my eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
“What- no, we shouldn’t.”
“Why not?” Mum frowns. “Come on, I barely know her, and she’s your best friend. I’d love to meet her family-”
“No, you wouldn’t.” I scoffed, rubbing the tip of my nose. “Her family aren’t…” I itch the back of my neck, trying to find a word to describe what Fernanda’s father is like. “Good people.” I grimaced.
“Oh, and we’re upstanding citizens, are we?” Mum jokes, raising her eyebrows. “Come on, what’ll go wrong? Just invite them over.” She says, and I lick my top set of teeth.
“Tom will just flirt with her the whole time.” I sighed, trying to think of any excuse to not have the Barbosa family in my house.
“So?”
“So… it’ll piss her off.” I tell her, and mum just rolls her eyes in answer.
“Just invite them.” She sighed. “I’m sure I can scrape by enough money to make a decent meal.” She says, before blowing me a kiss and leaving the kitchen. I groan and pull myself onto the counter, grabbing my shitty phone from my pocket and pulling up Fernanda’s number.
