tw: mentions drugs
Clara had to travel home after the case with the little boy, despite how much she wanted to stay and help Spencer through whatever he was going through. But she had an extremely important doctor's appointment that she had been waiting months for. Garcia, JJ and Prentiss all collectively managed to convince her to book one after she had gone into semi great detail about her periods. They all insisted that the pain and how it affected her body was not typical, even if she had been kinda diagnosed with Endometriosis by one of her Ma's doctor friends when she was younger. She had been on the waiting list for eight months then, when she finally received an appointment, had to wait a further six for the date. Spencer of course understood this, even though he had wanted her there for emotional support and just the general light that she brought to his life. She left with the promise to be at the end of the phone if he ever needed her, whether it was for a short discussion or help with the case.
A week and a half passed before he came back from Las Vegas. During that time, she had her appointment and had been booked in for a surgery to remove some of the endometrial tissue from her uterus in the hopes it would help with the pain and general ease of her periods. It was not guaranteed to help but she thought it would be better than not doing anything, a small fraction of hope for pain relief had to be better than none. The only person who knew about the surgery and what had occured at her doctor's appointment was Garcia. She would have told Spencer, had he called her.
His lack of contact was one of the reasons that Clara found herself rather surprised when he appeared on her doorstep, go bag still in hand, looking as if he had just stepped out of the plane. She however was completely ready for bed; hair tied back in its usual plait, mismatched pyjamas and her usual pre bed cup of decaffeinated tea in hand to be drunk whilst she read. She placed the cup down on the table where she kept her keys before answering the door. He dropped the bag to the floor the second she opened the door, arms embracing her with such desperation that she didn't think twice to return the hug with as much need. Her feet even left the floor for just a moment whilst they hugged. She listened to his rapid heartbeat and felt the unsettledness of his mind through it. It was a hug he just desperately needed, despite the fact that her burglar alarm was beeping rather radically in the background.
She pulled away and punched in the code without looking, attention completely focused on the look in his eyes. She had never seen such a display of emission within him, betrayal and heartbreak yet the desperate need of something. She knew what the look was, she had worked for a crime lord afterall, but did not say a thing about it. Clara just knew that she had to be there for him, right now, for whatever he needed in the hopes it would prevent him from doing the thing that tempted him so. He closed the door behind them both, after picking up his bag, and walked into the kitchen where he chose to sit on one of her stools.
As Clara began to prepare him a cup of tea, from her usual collection of loose tea leaves, he almost whispered, "If my parents hadn't killed a man, I'd be dead right now."
She gently set down the mug of tea in front of him, frowning with confusion. "What?" her response came soft, full of the same bewilderment he had felt only days before.
He gently cleared his throat and wrapped one hand around the mug, watching the steam loop and fall over itself as it rose from the ceramic. " I used to play Chess with this man in the park, Gary Michaels. He killed the boy I dreamt about... My Mom said she just knew from the way that he looked at me," he revealed slowly, as if relieving it all was a great pain.
"Oh my God."
"He never did anything to me, he was killed by someone called Lou before he could. My parents helped him get away with it..."
