It was Jay's farewell party that night when the two were getting ready. After a month of working with her, he decided it was time to go back to Busan and back to his family. "Don't open your eyes until I tell you so." She said, struggling to put on her heels because of how tight her dress was. "Wait, I can't-"
"Sit down, sunshine. I'll help you." Jay muttered, his hand placed over his eyes as she sat down on the couch and watched him make his way towards her. He crouched down, his hands gracefully working to fasten the straps of her heels. She put her hand over his eyes, making sure he wouldn't peek. "There you go. All done." His fingers trailed up her leg and she smiled at the sensation, feeling a warm shiver run through her.
"You can open your eyes," She took her hand off his eyes and slowly opened them, adjusting to the sight before him. She sat there, all perfect and breathtaking, and Jay fell in love all over again. "Let me show you." She slowly held his hand and stood up, letting him see the whole dress. She wore a form-fitting, black dress that hugged her curves in all the right places. It had a low back, showcasing the graceful line of her spine, and it cascaded down to her ankles in a silky, elegant flow.
"Wow," Jay breathed, his eyes never leaving her as he stood up. He watched her give him a twirl, the fabric of her dress swirling around her in a mesmerizing dance. "You look incredible, sunshine. Completely breathtaking." His hand went to the small of her back, drawing her closer to him. His touch was warm and possessive, making her think of all the ways he had touched her before.
"Thank you, Jay." She had always been a bit self-conscious about dressing up, but Jay's appreciation and love made her feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. Her fingers gently brushed against his cheek, tracing the contours of his handsome face. "You mean the world to me."
He slowly leaned in, smiling against her lips as he kissed her softly. "You're my whole world, you know that." He whispered against her lips and she smiled, slightly pulling away to kiss his forehead.
Then she pulled away from him, carefully holding her dress while she went to get her back, and he watched her back, his jaw slightly agape at the sight of her. She gracefully slipped her arms into the straps of her bag, adjusting it on her shoulder. "Ready for your party?" He smiled at her and opened the door, letting her step out.
"Yes, my lady." She walked in front of him and he held the back of her dress so it wouldn't trail on the ground. The two of them drove to the party and when they stepped inside, everyone's eyes were on them. No one knew that they were a thing, but it was obvious they were more than just colleagues or friends.
"Mr. Park, what's going on?" One of their colleagues approached them, asking the question everyone had on their minds.
"I'm leaving Seoul, heading back to Busan, and Y/N here..." He paused, glancing at her with affection while keeping his arm around her. "She's coming with me." There was a collective gasp of surprise and excitement from their colleagues as the news sunk in. Everyone was happy for them and Y/N felt like she was on top of the world. She could hardly contain her excitement, and her smile radiated pure joy.
When the slow music started and everyone started dancing, Jay held her in his arms, their bodies swaying to the rhythm of the music. "You really know how to make an entrance, don't you?" She smiled, her eyes sparkling with happiness.
His grip on her waist tightened just a bit as he chuckled. "I have the most beautiful date tonight, how could I not show her off?"
"I'm sure she feels lucky to have you as her date." Y/N rested her head on his shoulder as the night seemed to pass by in a blur of music, laughter, and stolen glances between them.
The party was slowly coming to an end and when Jay greeted everyone and wished them well, they were finally alone on the building's balcony, watching Seoul's lights twinkling like a sea of stars in the night sky. Y/N leaned against the railing while he stood behind her and put his jacket over her shoulder, making her give him the most beautiful smile he had ever seen. "This has been the most incredible night of my life."
"Really?" He leaned down, resting his head on her shoulder. "Not the night we spent together?"
She turned to him, her eyes wide while she let out a mock gasp. "You're really trying to get me all flustered now, aren't you, Mr. Park?"
Jay chuckled, his warm breath tickling her ear. "I suppose I am. You know how much I enjoy seeing that lovely blush of yours."
"You're incorrigible." Y/N turned fully to face him, her arms slipping around his waist. His dimples were on full display as he flashed a charming grin. "Oh? They're here." She reached up to touch them and he playfully bit her finger, making her giggle.
"Those dimples are my secret weapon, they always seem to work."
"You're such a tease." She swatted his arm and he threw his head back, laughing like a carefree soul under the starlit sky. She turned around in his hold, staring at the night sky. "Gosh, I don't think anything can top this night, Jay. It's been perfect-" When she felt his arms pull away, she turned around just to find him on one knee, and her heart skipped a beat.
"Let me fix my shoe," He playfully raised his eyebrow when she realized he wasn't proposing. "I'm kidding."
"Jay..." She began, her voice catching in her throat as she looked down at him on one knee. "Don't play with my emotions like that-" But her breath caught in her throat when Jay reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. He opened it to reveal a breathtaking diamond ring that sparkled in the moonlight just like the stars above. Her eyes widened, her hands instinctively moving to cover her mouth in surprise.
"It's time for the real question, sunshine," He smiled so softly she could melt. "All my life, all those years, I've been living in a blur. I've never thought that my first love, the girl I could never forget, would be the same woman standing before me, shining in the starlight, and filling my heart with more love than I ever imagined possible. But now you're here, and I know this is where I'm meant to be, with you, for the rest of my life. So sunshine, will you let me be your husband, the man who'll stand by your side through every sunrise and sunset and love you until the stars themselves go out?"
Y/N held his face in her hands and kissed him. The salty taste of her tears blended with the taste of his lips and she wrapped her arms around him while he held her tight. "Yes. Yes, I want to." She whispered against his lips, her thumb softly tracing his jawline.
Jay slipped the dazzling diamond ring onto her finger, pulling her hand before he planted a gentle kiss against her knuckles. "My beautiful sunshine." He held her up in his arms and twirled her around under the starlit sky, her black dress flowing like a midnight waterfall around her.
And when he set her down, she giggled and showed him her ring as if it were the most precious treasure in the world. Jay reached to wipe her tears, giving her the sweetest smile he could muster. "Oh wow, you're engaged. Your fiancé must be over the moon-" She playfully hit his arm and he laughed heartily, cradling her close once more. "I can't believe you're going to be my wife. I mean, damn, I must have saved a galaxy in a past life to deserve this."
"Jay," She smiled, her face buried in his chest. "I think I'm the one who saved a galaxy by finding you."
"Wow, my woman saves galaxies." He chuckled, his fingers gently lifting her chin to meet his gaze before he pecked her lips. Once, twice, and then a third time, their laughter blending with the sounds of the night. "You truly are my sunshine in the darkest of nights."
