-Jahaan-
"Oh, sorry I forgot to introduce you two," Aarav interrupts my small talk with the lady besides me. She looks exquisite. She is wearing a black top with brown dress pants, no jewelry except a silver chain around her neck with a closed locket, and black heels. Is it fair to other women that this lady here has no trace of makeup on her but is still as attractive as ever? I don't think it is. She is a natural beauty.
"Jahaan, this is Dhivti, owner of a cosmetic brand known as D-eauty and a successful businesswoman," he says and turns to Dhivti, "and Dhivti, this is Jahaan, my best friend and a psychologist," he finishes. Dhivti. That's quite a unique name. A business woman? Brownie points for that. Wait, what the fuck am I doing?
"Hey, Jahaan Joshi," I re-introduce myself and forward my right hand for her to shake. "Dhivti Verma." She replies as she grasps my hand in hers for a handshake and in the process,
her eyes lock into mine for a brief moment which leaves me astounded. Her eyes. They are so cold. So empty. How is that humanly possible? How can her eyes show nothing at all?
How can I, a psychologist, not read her eyes? The moment I try to look deeper into her eyes, she averts them.
As she follows Aarav and Anisha. I follow them too.
.
Aarav and I leave the ladies to do their own shopping whereas we do ours. It is so easy for us men to choose our outfits since we have very limited options. We are done with all our shopping within an hour or so hence we decide to go to the café as we wait for the ladies.
"She is beautiful, isnt it?" Aarav starts as we sit at a table. I know who he is talking about. Dhivti.
"Who exactly?" I ask, trying to play dumb. "You know who I am talking about Jahaan. Dhivti."
"Yes, she is beautiful but that does not concern me. Why are we even having this conversation?"
"Not for any other reason except manifesting for you two to end up together," Aarav smirks which makes me scoff.
"You know that is not going to happen, so why don't you just shove your theory right up your ass?"
Aarav has been trying to set me up with numerous girls after my break up with my long-term girlfriend, Riya. We dated for five years but she cheated on me with one of my friends. My family and close friends think that I haven't yet moved on from her but truth be told, I did. I was never in love with Riya. Yes, I really liked her a lot but it never felt like love even though it hurt like a bitch when I got cheated on by her. After that incident, I focused on myself and my career so I never thought of getting into a relationship.
"When will you move on, Jahaan?" Aarav asks making me look at him. "I have told you several times that I have moved on. Why is it so hard to believe?"
"Okay fine, you could have moved on, then why dont you give relationships another try? You also know the fact that many girls are trying on you and you don't even glance at them. Why is that if you have really moved on?" He gives me a look that states that there is no way out of this conversation.
"Look Aarav, I am not looking for a relationship right now. Besides, I haven't found the right girl yet. These girls that you say are trying on me are actually trying for my bank balance. They are after my money, not me," Aarav opens his mouth to say something but I interrupt, "I don't want to talk about this anymore. Let me have my coffee in peace. Thank you." He instantly closes his mouth and sighs.
As I am taking a sip from my cup, my mind drifts back to a certain someone. Dhivti. Her eyes. What is it about her eyes? Why can't I stop thinking about them? Should I ask Aarav about her? No, he might think I have something for her. But he knows I have a curious mind which are the after-effects of being a psychologist so I can ask him, right? No. This is about Dhivti who he thinks will end up with me. Damn it, to hell. I will just ask and shut him up later.
