chapter 5 - things go sideways.

the next day, the police had recovered the security camera footage from inside the school when raphael was murdered. they watch it to see the masked person walk from afar into the school, and spray paint the cameras with black paint. they alert everyones family about this, kym and xander finding this out they immediately try to keep daria inside and safe but they don't know how to tell her, "kym, can't you just tell her?" asked xander. "no hon, she'll be more likely to listen to you if you do it." xander asked, "how do you know that?" kym replies, "because she clearly doesn't listen to a word i say." xander goes to talk as they both hear darias bedroom door open, "love you, good luck!" kym says quickly as she walks off, "kym! yo-" xander grits his teeth as daria walks out, "heeyy..kiddo." daria smiles slightly, "hey dad." daria goes to walk past xander as he stops her, "so..y'know how your friend.." daria nods, "uh huh..?" xander continues, "so we just got notified that the security footage they saw, had someone in that ghostface outfit so..me and your mom figured it'd be best if you just stayed home." daria looks, "seriously?" xander nods, "yeah, we both think it's for the best..just to keep you safe." daria chuckles, "look dad, i appreciate you and mom trying to keep me safe or whatever..but i'll be fine." daria walks past xander and leaves the house as he watches from afar. he groans in annoyance as she leaves as kym pokes her head out, "did it work?" xander shakes his head, "nope, i tried." kym groans before grabbing her phone. xander asks, "what are you doing?" kym responds, "just calling someone." before putting the phone up to her ear.

daria walks down the sidewalk, on her way over to serenity's house as they both were going to do their homework they had to get done together. she finally makes it and knocks on the door. a couple seconds go by before serenity opens the door, "hey!" daria smiles and asks as she walks in, "you ready to get this..annoying ass homework done?" serenity laughs, "i'm never ready..that's why i have homework in the first place." daria chuckles as they both sit down on serenity's couch and asks, "do you seriously have this whole house to yourself?" serenity nods, "yep, my dads out for a business trip. but he should be back in a couple days." daria nods as she looks down at the paper and they begin to work on it. about thirty minutes go by, and they both are almost about done with the worksheet when..they hear a knock at the door. they both look over as daria asks, "did you invite anyone else?" serenity shakes her head, "..no, weird." she stands up and walks to the door, she looks through the glass window in the door to see..nobody there. she rolls her eyes as she looks at daria, "there's nobody there." daria chuckles, "i'm sure it's just the kids down the street ding dong ditching, they do it all the time to my house." serenity groans, "oh how i hate those little shits." daria laughs as serenity walks over and sits back down, they continue to work until they hear the knocking again. daria rolls her eyes as she stands, "i'll get it, i'll just scare them off or something." serenity chuckles as daria walks to the door and opens it, "look, buzz o-" daria stops when she sees the ghostface figure standing right infront of the door, she immediately goes to slam the door but they run into the door..just barely getting their hand in the door. daria yells to serenity, "come fucking help me!" serenity bounces up and immediately runs to daria, she helps her force the door shut as she locks it. both of them back away from the door as daria grabs for her phone, she begins to dial 911 when the glass from the door gets smashed in. both the girls scream as they make a run for the back door, serenity pulls on the door handle..it won't budge, daria yells, "what's wrong with it?!" serenity yells back, "i don't know, it's stuck!" daria moves serenity as she tugs on the handle..it is stuck.

both girls turn quickly to see the masked person running at them, they scream as they raise their knife and sends it straight at them. they both jump out of the way as it goes straight through the back door, they both take their chance and begin to run to the front door. the killer rips out their knife and lunges at daria, tackling her. "DARIA!" serenity yells as she turns, daria kicks at the person as they go to stab her..but she quickly kicks them hard in the groin, and kicks them off of her. serenity reaches out her hand for daria as she grabs it, they both run out of the front door and run out to the road. they turn back expecting to see the killer when they see theres no longer anybody inside the house, they both are breathing heavily as serenity asks, "..where'd he go?"
daria shakes her head as she swallows, "i don't know.." they both are standing in shock as the neighbors porch lights all start to turn on, being confused about all the noise they just heard.

both girls are interviewed that night by police and then have to be picked up by their parents, in the ride home kym tells daria, "you are staying home, i don't care." daria responds, "mom, i don't wa-" kym interrupts her, "no daria, you listen to me. i am your mother, it is whats best and safest for you. so when i tell you to do it, you're doing it." daria sighs, just accepting it as kym holds back a smile, being very proud of herself.
