We all walk into the cafeteria. I walk up to the counter with him. "What would you kids like?"
He shakes his head. "I don't have any money."
"It's ok you're with me." Then I look down. "Well shit, I'm not me. MARCUS."
Marcus looks at me and laughs for a second. Then he looks at the girl. "Just give them whatever they want."
She smiles. "Of course. So what would you 2 like?"
We get food and sit down then Marcus comes over with some food and sits down. He gets out some paper. "Tell me what you want the house to look like. I know you said built in cabinets for your fishing and hunting gear. A little desk. You know we could probably put a little desk area right in a wall of cupboards. Does that sound like something you would like?"
"I really wanted to do everything on my own."
Marcus smiles. "I respect that more than anything. But I can not let you live there. You are a child. I could see outside right beside your bed on the wall. There are certain things I have to fix before I can let a child move back in."
I nod at him. "He's a real ass sometimes. You just have to give him what he wants."
Marcus rubs his eyes. "Think of it this way. Right now, you would have to fix everything, all at once to make that livable. You can not do that. Even if you had 50k. You don't have the skill yet. And it would take 1 person years to fix. So I am going to come in and fix the walls, fireplace, and roof. The porch, fence, and stairs. I'll fix the windows and the creaky floor boards. The staircase and the cupboards that were falling off the walls in the kitchen. Then I'm going to put running water in the house and give you an actual bed. Maybe a couch.. So for right now, you work on the garden and the chicken coop. You gain some skill and you learn about wood working. That way next time the porch rail breaks off, you know exactly how to fix it. So you do it yourself. You keep that house up and in good shape. By yourself. You won't need contracting companies. You'll learn it all slow because stuff will wear out slow. You can learn it that way as you go. Does that make sense? It's still your house. We're just fixing some things for you to have a better start."
"Ok I understand now."
I smile at him. "You should have them extend the porch like you wanted at least. It would take a long time before someone gained enough skill to build a porch I think."
He nods fast. "Then I could make my own swing for it."
Marcus nods. "And I would seriously consider the built in cabinets and desk. Those things are hard to make."
"Ok. At least my stuff wouldn't be sitting right inside the door."
"Oh you should put a balcony above the porch. There was already a roof there. Like at the other house. I really liked that balcony off the bedroom up there."
"Hell yea that was awesome."
Marcus nods and writes it down. Then he looks at me. "Ok I'm taking Luke and all his paperwork. It's my case now. Can you get him a guest room for a few weeks and the food card for the cafeteria please."
"Sure."
"Thank you angel. We'll be in my office."
"Ok I'll be up in a few minutes." I go get all Luke's stuff ready then go up to Dipak's office.
Tre smiles at me from the head of the table. "How's it going?"
"Marcus took Luke and said it's his case now. But he's going to fix his house. Luke is staying in the guest rooms now and I got his cafeteria card. I'm just dropping everything off then I can do meetings again."
