'Chapter 19'

"I knew I was going to die one day, but I didn't think it would be by the teeth of a mutt," Kane spat out, and Wrex seemed to have heard his comment, growling in response and causing Kane to flinch and take a step back.
"You're only agitating the dog even more, Kane, shut up!" Alucard said as he got out of the car and walked towards the two boys who seemed frozen with fear.
"Well, I'm sorry. Would you tell him I'm sorry for me, Pierce?" Kane jokingly sneered.
Dria noticed Alucard's shoulders shake slightly, and she could tell he chuckled at the joke. She held Marcelo tightly as they watched Alucard approach the dog with his hands up, motioning for Kane and Edrik to step back.
They withdrew and stood beside Jared's vehicle while everyone watched Alucard seem to converse with the dog. Wrex had stopped barking and was now staring at Alucard as if listening to what he had to say. A minute passed, and Dria observed as the dog took a few steps towards Alucard, as if testing the waters, before fully tackling him down.
His laughter echoes in the field and he pets the dog a few times. Before they both stand and move aside, letting Jared park the truck in the Barn. Katrina nudges me and she nods for us to go back into the house. All four of us, Katrina, Marcelo, Elliam and I leave the boys to their devices as we explore the house.
It's a five-bedroom house with two bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. A living room and a small kitchen. Thank God, it didn't have a basement, I guess the barn was the substitute.
"Let's see if the lights work, cant exactly keep using flashlights the entire time," Katrina said as she walks to the living room switch. The sound of her flicking the sound echoes in the room and we all wait for the light to appear in the room. For a minute I think that maybe we're going to be living in the dark for a while but the bulb flickers for a while and I find myself crossing my fingers for it to be stable.
A second later, the room is lighted and I smile at my aunt who has the same satisfied look on her face.
There's two couches in the room, brown and they look worn out but still usable. They're facing each other with a small brown coffee table separating them in the middle of the room.
A fireplace sits in the corner and there's a dinner table to the left of the room, with 5 chairs around it.
"That's much better," she says as she fluffs the small pillows on the couch.
Dria pushed the boys towards the couches, and they settled down, while Katerina pulled her into the kitchen.
"Okay, let's see what we have. I know Jeremiah means well, but when was the last time he went grocery shopping," she said, opening the fridge.
While Katerina did that, Dria went through the cupboard and found some tin-canned food that she knew would come in handy—tin fish, beans, beef, tuna, and some sardines that made her shake her head in disgust. There were a few utensils and some extra supplies like brooms and mops, the usual assortment.
Dria looked back at Katerina. "He didn't do too bad," she said with a shrug.
"Yeah, well, he forgot the eggs, milk, and bread, but behold, he didn't forget the meat. He got every kind of meat," Katerina said, slamming the fridge door just in time as the boys walked through the back door with bags strapped to their bodies.
"Oh, great, you got the lights working," Kane cheered as they flooded into the living room, with Dria and Katerina following behind. They dumped everything on the floor and settled down on the couches, clearly exhausted.
