Alucard Before 'Chapter 10'

─── · 。゚☆: *. .* :☆゚. ───

With a thud, the window closed, and Alucard almost jumped out of his seat, startled by the abrupt sound. He sighed and rose from his chair, crossing his room to shut the window. The silence that accompanied him every day in this house enveloped him as he blocked out the sound of the roaring wind outside.

Glancing around his room, Alucard realized he had been sitting at his computer for hours without noticing the sunset. Shaking his head, he grabbed his jacket from his bed along with his car keys, eager to escape the solitude of his room.

He descended the hallway and descended the stairs after closing the door to his room. The eerie quietness seemed to reverberate in his head, tormenting his thoughts and driving him toward the howling wind. As he approached his car, the wind tugged at his coat, prompting him to shove his hands into his pockets.

Once inside the car, he switched on the heater and pulled out of the driveway, heading to the one place where his thoughts didn't echo. Alucard couldn't quite pinpoint when he had started seeking solace with her whenever he needed to escape his thoughts, or why he did it. But when he arrived there, everything seemed to quiet down. His thoughts dimmed, and his body released its pent-up tension.

Thunder echoed outside Alucard's car, and he was aware that a minor storm was approaching. He sighed, hoping he could reach his destination before the rain started. Glancing at the clock on the dashboard, he couldn't help but smile: 21:02 pm.

He knew she hadn't left for her shift yet, and she had no plans to go out tonight due to the impending storm.

Parking his car at the curb, he got out and walked towards the front door. The familiar aroma of tonight's dinner ingredients filled the air, bringing a smile to his face.

Alucard knocked on the door, expecting her to open it, but his smile disappeared when another male, not one of the twins, answered it. As Alucard looked at the guy, he felt the man's eyes scanning him up and down.

Short blond hair, blue eyes, and a slender figure.

He seemed to be strolling about as if he were the perfect boy, which immediately irritated Alucard.

"Can I help you?" the guy asked, his voice sharp. Alucard shook his head, trying to collect his racing thoughts. "No, I'm looking for someone," he replied.

Alucard realized he must have been standing there like an awkward idiot as Kane shook his head and continued speaking. Behind Kane, footsteps echoed, and Alucard's eyes caught the hazel ones, which calmed his racing mind.

"Let the homeless in, Kane," she replied with a faint smile, "but don't let him near our food." Alucard walked into the home, hearing Kane shut the door behind him. He noticed the comfortable brown couch and the soft buzzing of the television, catching a peek at the show on the screen.

Nymphus Alley.

Kane walked right past him and took a seat on the couch, completely focused on the show. Alucard offered him a slight nod before rolling his eyes, realizing Kane wasn't even looking at him.

"What are you doing?" Alucard asked, his eyebrows furrowed in concern as he turned his focus to the shuffling of shoes behind him and caught her putting on her shoes.

He couldn't help but think how cute she looked as she glanced up at him, some of her locks falling down her face, but he didn't focus on the thought any longer.

"I'm getting ready for my shift," she said as if he should already know, which he did, but that wasn't the issue.

"You do realize a storm is coming, right?"

"Told you so," Alucard heard, turning around to find Kane adorning his face with a smirk while his eyes remained fixed on the screen.

"Yes, brewing," she said, pulling her hair up in a frizzy bun, "but I'm still going."

"No, you're not," Alucard grumbled, rolling his eyes, "the restaurant is most likely closed, and they have most likely sent you a note instructing you not to come."

"They haven't sent anything, Pierce, please don't make this such a big deal."

"Fine, but I'm dropping you off," Alucard grumbled as he met her eyes and realized she wouldn't back down from going.

She mumbled something in agreement before disappearing down the hall, presumably to retrieve her jacket.

When Alucard turned around, he found Kane standing directly in front of him, almost jumping out of his boots. Kane's blue eyes locked with his, and they appeared to be staring at each other for a minute before Alucard noticed the orange rims around Kane's eyes. He blinked before returning his gaze to Kane's eyes; the orange had faded, and Kane looked away, returning to his seat on the couch.

Hendriette returned to the room and instructed Kane to take care of the laundry and ensure the twins went to bed on time. Throughout the exchange, Alucard couldn't shake the feeling that something was off with him.

As they left the house and got into Alucard's car, he couldn't resist asking, "Who is Kane to you?"

"He's my cousin," she replied, turning around to meet his gaze.
