Kayla has always been a good kid. She's not exactly a perfect daughter but then again nobody's perfect. She has lived in Penny Hills her entire life, and has been going to Penny Hills high school for 2 years now and nothing ever changes. She doesn't get any detentions, the only time she does stay after school is to go Art Club to work on her paintings every now and then.
Kayla has one main friend, Ruby Wilson, and they have been friends since 3rd grade when they both pushed each other in the sand pit, forgave each other and became best friends instantly. They don't do anything without the other. Ruby is the complete opposite of Kayla. Always getting detentions for the stupidest things, going to parties and skipping school, but when Kayla needs her she'll always be there.
Being a sophomore ain't all that Kayla thought it would be. Quizzes basically every week and her parents always expect her to be getting top marks in those. She gets so much pressure from basically everyone, her parents.. her teachers.. even the neighbours who are always wondering how she's getting on with her classes. The one thing she doesn't get pressure from is her art.. and boys.
Painting gets Kayla through everything. Whether somethings in her mind or she can't focus, she just lets it all out on a canvas. Big one or small, it doesn't matter to her, as long as by the end, it has something on it, she's good. Kayla has been painting ever since she was a little girl. She painted a glowing rainbow that she saw outside her kitchen window and since that moment she fell in love with painting. She still keeps the rainbow painting up on her bedroom wall.
That rainbow painting always gets dirty looks from her young brother, Freddie. Every time he walks in her bedroom, it's always the same look and the same saying 'i can do better than whatever that is'. Freddie is in middle school and he's only 3 years younger than Kayla but he acts like he's the boss of her. Kayla doesn't really seem to care.. on a good day. But on a bad day.. let's just say it ends up with both of them getting grounded.
Both Kayla's parents have high expectations of her 'because she's the oldest', which isn't exactly helpful because whenever she wants to ask for help she gets scared and doesn't even bother asking because she knows they'll just tell her no. Her father is a neurologist and he won't ever stop talking about it.. 'you would not believe the day I had!'. All the time, that's all Kayla hears at the dinner table! Oh and her mother, the strictest mother on the planet. Probably not even from this planet, most likely from some sort of intelligent alien tribe and she's the leader!
Kayla's mother is the type of mother that makes other mothers feel bad about themselves. She can be so horrible and wouldn't even notice. It's so bad that she doesn't even let Ruby come over because of her 'influence'. So whenever Kayla wants to hang out with Ruby it has to be when her mother isn't around. Her mother works in the bank as a loan officer, and like her brother, Freddie, she acts like the boss of everyone and thinks that her role to the bank is sooo high.
Kayla has so much going on in her family that she always wants to go to school. As soon as that alarm goes off, she gets ready and gets out of there. Even when Ruby ain't ready yet, Kayla would wait outside her house.. or even come in just to walk with her. She won't EVER go alone. No matter what. Not ever again..
What do you think happened to make
Kayla not go out on her own?
Stay tuned to find out more!
