Low pants escaped Kanae's mouth as she stepped out of the building. Her knee wobbled as her foot touched the pavement, struggling to focus on the group of students outside.
In the state she was, her mind was barren struggling to comprehend anything. Overusing her cursed technique was a terrible idea, but as she held the mutilated head of the slender curse, she felt powerful.
She noticed the white frays coming from a tall figure, which she assumed to be Gojo alongside other students that he probably evacuated from the school.
As she moved towards him, Riko trailed behind her. Kanae felt guilt in her heart for everything she had put Riko through. She felt like an asshole and wished things could be normal as they once were. But after tonight, she was positive that distancing from Riko was the only way she could keep her safe.
The real curse in Riko's life is me.
Kanae bit her lip taking dominant strides towards her partner appearing maniacal. The chest of her uniform split open with indigo juices spewed across her body as well had crusted in her hair. Remnants of her blood dried up beneath her nose. Her once neat hair in the ponytail was now tousled, the band in her hair barely keeping it together. Defeating the curse was life-threatening, but she managed to do it.
As she stood before Gojo, his eyes watched her amused seeing her dead expression. His eyes met hers as they still blazed fuchsia. It was different from the last time he saw them. He's seen her fearful, a tease, but right now, they seemed broken and empty.
"It wasn't a Grade 4."
"Intel was wrong. Somehow I'm not surprised."
He shifted a glance to Leiko who shrugged. Kanae's eyes met hers finally emitting an expression of annoyance. Leiko hesitated noticing her demeanour reeking of a darker murderous intent.
"Hey, you need to relax."
"I am relaxed. I mean, I just had my chest slit open and I'm covered in questionable juices. I should be losing my mind, but I am perfectly fine." She spoke in a blank tone. Gojo reached out to her, but she slapped his hand away. "Dispose of the curse. I'm going to wait over there."
The other students watched Kanae strut away, her refused to respectfully acknowledge their presences. Some stood nervous whilst others were oddly impressed.
Gojo clicked his tongue on the roof of his mouth. When did he get into such a position? He was used to being the one doing or making the dirty work, not cleaning the mess. He quickly sent a text to get someone for a clean up because he surely wouldn't.
Another figure appeared before him, a small female with navy hair holding a small frown on her face.
"Y..You go to school with Kanae now, right?" Riko halted her movements at Gojo who nodded.
"Yeah."
"Are you guys close?" She pouted in an annoyed tone while flashing curious eyes at him.
Close? What a strange thing to ask him. He thought to himself for a few moments before answering.
"Depends what you call...close." He held his chin before raising an eyebrow at her. "Whether she likes it or not, she's stuck with me."
Riko didn't understand what that meant. She wasn't sure if she trusted this man. He was pretty for sure, but the pretty ones were always the most troubled ones. She could already see his cheeky demeanour and hoped that Kanae avoided him as much as she could.
"Are you guys dating?" That came out more as a shriek.
"N—" Leiko squinted her eyes at him. "We are taking it slow." He whispered hoping Kanae hadn't heard him. As much as she wanted Leiko to see them as dating, he wasn't sure if she wanted anyone else to.
