The classroom was slowly filling with students, Kanna had to walk a bit early due to reasons she wouldn't tell me. I just decided to tag along so I could tell her all about my weekend. She was even more excited than I was, it seemed. She kept asking if she had seen this dude before and if he was handsome. I never answered because of my blushing.
When i entered the classroom and sat at my well known seat, Hado was already happily talking beside me, not caring if I was listening or not. She was talking about how she bought some super cool clothes or something. Then my eyes averted to the door where Togata and Amajiki walked in, Amajiki following close behind his friend.
His eyes met mine, and I gave him a small smile and a wave. He waved back a little, then I realized that Togata and Amajiki were such good friends, Togata must know we spend basically the whole weekend together.
In the end, he never said anything about it to Hado. The rest of the students were all here, and our teacher, Miss Kayama, had entered the classroom. "Welcome, my lovely students! I have some very exciting news today." The classroom cheered a bit, hoping they'd finally get something cool. Miss Kayama smiled brightly, "The UA Sports festival is coming up! It'll be at the end of this week!"
I had to cover my ears as the whole class cheered, I was sure to be one of the only ones not to make a sound. I turned around slightly so I could see Amajiki. Of course, he wasn't shouting either. He noticed that I had turned my head back, so I widened my eyes and shot back to look forward. I have no idea why I reacted so quickly.
The rest of the day was boring and just like any other normal day. We had all of our classes, and at the end of the day, we thought we had something fun, but it was torture. They just wanted us all to run a lot of laps around the field, I never counted because I lost it after just 2 laps. Then they decided to let us all do push ups and some jumping things, I was already dead after 15 minutes. No way I remembered anything that happened after.
Breathing super heavy, me and Hado sat on the ground, we were finally done and absolutely broken. Hado rested her head on my shoulder and let out a loud sigh. In the corner of my sight, I saw someone approaching us. I looked to the side and waved with a smile. Well, the smile was pathetic because I was sweating like crazy and still out of breath. "They really don't go easy on us, huh?"
Togata smiled brightly, and it looked almost as if he wasn't even that tired. Of course, you could see the sweat dripping off of his face. Amajiki emerged from behind him, and he seemed exhausted as well. I gave him a small smile, which he did see but turned his head away. Hado suddenly pushed herself up a bit and held her hands on my shoulders.
"What do you say we all get something delicious?!" She was all bright and smiling happily while resting almost her whole body weight on me. Togata pushed his finger up and smiled, "Like at the mall? That would be fun!" Of course, Amajiki and I just agreed on it with a nod, probably not even able to say no even if we wanted to.
We all changed back to our normal school clothes and put up a lot of deodorant. I waited for Hado to finish because she took a little longer. After we exited the changing rooms, we saw the two boys already waiting for us, Togata immediately standing straight with a smile. Hado marched forward, and we all followed her a bit.
The way there, Togata started walking next to Hado, and they started talking really loudly about all sorts of nonsense. I smiled slightly, feeling the warmth of my friends around me, doing something fun with them for one of the first times. It really felt comfortable around them.
I turned my head to the side, Amajiki wasn't staring at the floor like he always does. He seemed so relaxed, which looked almost the same when we hung out together. His shoulders loose and his eyes looking up with a shine in them. Amajiki suddenly widened those very eyes I was looking at and moved his head towards mine. He didn't look scared or anything but a bit confused.
I widened my eyes and immediately faced away. "Sorry! I shouldn't have been staring.." I made sure to stay quiet so Hado and Togata wouldn't notice this sudden awkwardness behind them. I slowly gazed my eyes back to Amajiki, who had softened. The smallest smile appeared on his face as he held back his trembles.
my gentle smile immediately came on my face. He was trying to cheer me up, which was what i was guessing. We arrived at the mall after a few minutes of walking, it was further away from my house so I didn't come here all that much. Most of the time, I just tagged along with Kanna not really caring.
My pocket suddenly started vibrating, and I took my phone out. I was being called? I looked at the number and saw my dad's name there, I accepted the call and stood still in my tracks while bringing the device to my ear.
"Dad?" My voice was quiet because dad didn't call or message me much compared to mom. I thought it must've been important if he'd suddenly call me like this.
"Hey, sweety! I thought about something for a while now and wanted to ask you."
I was super confused. What was he thinking about? And that's so important that he can't wait? "Okay," I mumbled into the speaker, waiting for his question.
"I'll come to the UA Sports festival in my old hero costume to cheer you on!"
I was absolutely shocked. He never really did or said anything about his hero days. I was, of course, speechless and mumbled small sounds, not knowing what to say. "Really?? Dad, of course!!" I totally forgot my friends were there looking at me very confused.
Dad said goodbye before hanging up and said he was super excited about it. He was always really supportive of me wanting to follow in his tracks, but he always seemed a bit sad or something when I brought it up. He loved it, but I always thought he was scared. I never asked him too much about it, mom always said we should just leave it be.
Amajiki was apparently standing really close to me when I was lost in thought, "Are you okay?" My head shot up. He was standing close to me with a confused expression on his face. His indigo sparkling eyes stared into mine. "My dad is going to spectate at the UA Sports festival in his hero costume!" I was absolutely jumping with joy, and a big smile was plastered on my face.
Amajiki's worry and confusion disappeared in an instant. His face softened, and his eyes became gentle. "Your father is a hero??!" Togata suddenly pushed his head past Amajiki and a bright smile on his face, suddenly super interested. Hado also joined and basically grabbed my shoulder to shake me back and forth. "Well, he retired years ago." Hado waved her hand in front of me, "still! That's super cool!" I could feel my face getting a bit warm, and a small smile formed.
It was going to be really cool, I was sure of it. Dad would be there, and in his hero costume, he'd be there for me. To cheer me on and see me. I was suddenly a lot more excited for the festival, definitely more than before.
It was soon, just a few days, and it would be here. All first year's students competing against each other, there was always the surprise of what the challenges were going to be. The quirks would be used by everyone. It could be total chaos and definitely some scary, painful parts.
There was always some kind of solo challenge, one with teams, and then the leftover students fight on duals till there are only 2 left. They would fight for the number one spot. I was never one to think about getting number one, but it would be super cool, and my father could be proud of me for accomplishing such a thing.
All I knew was that this was going to be terribly scary and nerve-wracking. But you were going to make sure that you did your best. And secretly hoping not to have to use any big carnivores.
