Year 5

Athena Jones

The doors to the train slid closed behind me as I lugged my massive trunk along with my school bag and other bags of things I may or may not need.

My stomach dropped with nerves as I realized I’d be seeing Dahlia again. It’s been two months and I haven’t heard anything from her since our awkward kiss.

I hoped she wouldn’t be mad at me for rejecting her, or at least that we would be able to move past it and still be friends.

This was not the fun, carefree beginning of the school year I was hoping for. I was filled with anxiety and nerves at the prospect of seeing Dahlia again after all this time apart.

I wished she could just forget there had even been that stupid kiss, and go back to being friends like nothing had ever happened.

I dragged my luggage along the narrow space between cabins.

“Merlin, how much did you pack,” I hear the familiar annoying voice as I turned to look at Malfoy, in black suit with his luggage in one hand.

“Only the essentials,” I muttered sarcastically.

“Right, you need help?” He says putting his luggage in his cabin and lifting mine with a swift movement.

I don’t know why but I had the strangest feeling about him ever since the thing that happened last year. I am actually starting to believe he’s a decent human, I would be lying if I said I didn’t think about him in the holidays. When I was writing to my friends for new year, I accidentally stumbled upon a crumbled parchment, from thrid year where he had drawn a very...ugly drawing of me with fangs and stuff and thrown it at me.

And I almost thought of writing him, and sending him a drawing of him back at him.

“I can manage,” I said.

“You just look like you’re about to break your back, Red.” He said rolling his eyes.

“Don’t call me that,” I snapped, he smirked, making me roll my eyes.

“What, I’m trying to be nice and helpful,” He says as we move forward passing the other students who were making their way towards their own cabins with their friends.

"I thought we weren't supposed to act nice to eachother, remember?" I say.

Malfoy's scoffs slightly “Right, the whole 'enemies don't talk' rule.”

“Well, I guess we're breaking the rules then.” I said as I continued to walk forward down the aisle, Malfoy still trailing me a little behind with my luggage.

"I guess," I roll my eyes, hiding the frown that was growing on my face.

"Does it bother you?" He asks his voice sounding closer.

"Does what bother me?" I asked as I turned slightly and realized he had caught up and was now walking right beside me.

"Breaking your rules," He said as he gestured between us with one of his hands.
