Chrissy had a gut feeling that being engaged wasn't necessarily good news. She knows that her dad would be furious. The thought of her having getting married to a Pinoy was bad news for her dad since he took pride in being Chinese. Her dad has Chinese supremacy and she loves her dad but sometimes he thinks too highly of himself since he is Chinese. She knows her dad would overreact, so she kept her engagement to herself and never spoke of it to anyone else even to her friends. She decided to call Sandro's home tomorrow since she haven't met Sandro's parents.
It was early morning and Chrissy got up early. She called Sandro's home and his mother answered the phone.
"Good morning. Is Alessandro awake?" Chrissy asked.
"He is asleep. May I know who is calling?" an older female spoke over the phone and it made her nervous.
"This is Christina Lee."
"How do you know Alessandro? Is he your classmate or groupmate?"
"No, it would be better if you asked Sandro personally."
"I'll ask my son when he is awake. You can keep calling our home from today onwards. My name is Fe Vasquez.""Thank you, Tita Fe. I'll call tomorrow."
Chrissy broke a sweat and glad that the phone call was over. She was really nervous over their phone conversation. She texted Sandro that she wasn't prepared talking to his mom over the phone. She expected the maid to answer the phone. By calling his home often and the maid answered the phone she got information about what Sandro's business was. His family distributes agricultural pesticides and fertilizers. She didn't think it was a big deal at all. She also asked the maid what Sandro's shirt size is. She gave him a lot of shirts and tshirts.
She would buy him polo shirts and drop it of at his store. She left it at the security guard and texted Sandro she bought him a shirt. On their next date, they met at Abreeza mall and he was wearing a polo shirt. She thought it was a nice shirt and he looked good.
"Nice polo shirt."
"You were the one who bought this shirt." Sandro was a little disappointed she forgot.
"Oh. I forgot. I gave you a lot of shirts and can't keep track. I'm sorry, babe."
"How was you phone conversation with my mom?" Sandro asked.
"I was really nervous and I wasn't prepared at all."
"My mom wants to go through tradition and do mamanhikan at your house."
"Are you sure? I'm still 23, babe. I want us to have a long engagement. I'm giving you a chance to think this through because I don't want you to regret this. I read a book called the age of innocence and main lead had a long engagement. He met his girlfriend's cousin and fell in with her. He married her fiancé because the other girl didn't want to ruin his relationship. That's why I'm giving you time to think things through and if you still love after many years then we will get married."
"Let's break up. I don't want a long engagement. I want to marry you after a couple of months."
